Job Summary

We are looking for an outgoing, motivated, hands-on Senior Manager of Revenue Accounting to join the Company’s finance team who will be reporting to the Controller. This role will be responsible for the full scope order to cash cycle and will be aiding in other broad range of technical and transactional accounting activities. The major sub processes within the order to cash cycle that this role will focus on includes AR, Billing, Collections, Commissions, Researcher Payments, Deferred Revenue, etc.

Outside of the order to cash processes, this role will also be the subject matter expert for any ad-hoc technical accounting questions. This role will have 1 direct report. A successful candidate will need an in-depth understanding of ASC606 and familiarity with key systems such as SFDC and NetSuite. Prior SaaS, subscription/ recurring revenue-based revenue recognition would be a plus. A "roll-up-the-sleeves'' attitude is required and the ability to multitask and be ready to thrive in a very fast-paced startup environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating accurate and timely month-end close processes for the order to cash cycle in accordance with accounting close calendar (monthly, quarterly, and annual), including prepare, review, and approval of relevant monthly journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Responsible for 1 direct report who will support the full order to cash cycle
  • Responsible for all ASC 606 revenue recognition determinations including review of all sales contracts, related documentation and reporting during month end close
  • Responsible for approving all sales orders in NetSuite (via SFDC) and working cross-functionally with sales operations
  • Improve and implement best practices across the monthly close processes
  • Develop and maintain effective internal control processes applicable for a private growth stage company
  • Responsible for creating a playbook including a detailed reconciliation between payment platforms (PayPal, Trolley, Kraken, etc.) and Crowd Control Platform
  • Responsible for quarterly capitalized commission JE’s and working with sales operations and finance on sales compensation calculations
  • Understand new accounting standards, assess the implications, if any, to the Company, and execute adoption as appropriate, including communication, documentation and training
  • Contribute in the preparation of timely, accurate and meaningful internal and external financial statements and management reports
  • Provide technical accounting support for ongoing business activities, including conducting research, documenting processes, and forming conclusions in all areas, including stock based compensation, debt, equity, leases etc.
  • Provide training to accounting team for current policies, new / updated accounting guidance, and other complex areas of accounting
  • Lead the adoption of ASC 842 lease accounting process
  • Partner with business unit leaders on review of customer contracts and perform initial conclusions of appropriate revenue recognition treatment
  • Participate in ad hoc projects requiring specialized technical accounting knowledge
  • Develop strong business partnerships with business unit, departmental and internal financial leadership teams

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Be able to provide direction to a staff accountant and ensure their ability to grow by providing real-time feedback and on the job training/coaching
  • Set up and document a clear playbook for each significant process area

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance; advance degree a plus
  • CPA required
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 4 such years coming from a national public accounting firm
  • Software industry or high-growth technology company experience a strong plus
  • Experience with Netsuite ERP system required
  • Experience with Accrualify, Expensify, Carta, SFDC, Adaptive Insights a plus
  • Strong technical skills (GAAP and SEC reporting)
  • Relevant Sarbanes-Oxley experience a plus
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office with advanced skills in Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including presentation skills
  • Team player, ability to thrive in team oriented workplace that encourages active collaboration and cooperation to achieve continuous improvement and high performance
  • Deadline driven with highest possible accuracy
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks/activities simultaneously required
  • Strong track record of problem solving, strategic creative thinking and business communication skills required

Pay Range Disclosure 

The base pay range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, Qualifications, Geographical Location, Education/certifications, Experience, Skill Sets, Training, and other business and organizational needs. 

At Bugcrowd, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for the position of Senior Revenue Accountant is $108,000 - $150,000.

This position may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus program or commission plan, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
