About The Role:

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Senior Marketing and Communications Officer - Editorial will partner with stakeholders to set the overall editorial vision for the organization in service of identified strategic goals. This role will include managing a Marketing Officer and/or a Marketing Associate as well as contractors, as needed.

Role responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead implementation of an innovative and compelling editorial strategy consistent with VentureWell values, mission, brand identity, and strategic goals that will build awareness of organizational capabilities, advance thought leadership, and grow the VentureWell network

  • Lead the development and oversee the execution of content and products that position VentureWell as a learning organization

  • Identify publication goals and relevant audience(s) for each product; develop knowledge dissemination plan in support of these goals that include strategy goals, tactics, and budget (when relevant)

  • Serve as a co-creator with internal and external stakeholders in developing impactful multimedia storytelling campaigns that highlight the impact of VentureWell’s work in the broader innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem

  • Develop editorial style guide inclusive of brand purpose, audience, voice and tone, grammar and capitalization, SEO best practices and formatting

  • Uphold editorial quality to ensure that all products adhere to brand standards

  • Manage the editorial workflow process including reviewing editorial pieces, managing staff and consultants, and overseeing the production of content

  • Serves as a lead point person for communications opportunities that help promote the organization and advance VentureWell thought leadership

  • Oversee a marketing and communications officer who will manage the day-to-day content development and project management duties

  • Partners with leads in the Growth Strategy & Development, Programs, and Evaluation departments to develop proposals for new funding and partnership opportunities that support learning and knowledge product development and dissemination efforts

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization and broader VentureWell network to design and implement engaging learning and knowledge gathering and dissemination experiences, including remote and in-person convenings, webinars, podcasts, and media opportunities  

  • Assists in the preparation of talking points, presentations, and other supporting material as needed

  • Contribute to VentureWell conference session content development and dissemination of learnings

What You Bring:

  • Minimum 7 years experience in marketing communications; experience in nonprofits, higher education, or agency work with these sectors is ideal.

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills with an ability to articulate and synthesize information in a compelling and organized manner; exceptional strategic planning skills for a broad range of marketing and communications initiatives

  • Subject matter knowledge of science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship preferred
  • Ability to maintain strong relationships with key internal and external partners

  • Superior project management skills and ability to deliver results

  • Substantial experience and demonstrated success managing comprehensive strategic marketing, communications, and social media

  • Ability to understand and apply appropriate tools and technologies used in the workplace; the ease with adapting new technologies as needed

  • High degree of digital fluency using cloud-based office tools such as GSuite, CRMs, team collaboration tools, and other web-based applications; ability to incorporate these tools into day-to-day work.

  • Highly adaptable and comfortable working with a degree of ambiguity

  • Comfortable working in a remote environment

  • Willing to travel on occasion

  • An attractive and equitable compensation package, including: 

    • a salary range of $90-100K commensurate with experience and internal equity

    • 403 (b) with 200% match up to a maximum contribution from VentureWell of 10% when the employee puts it 5% (eligible after one year of service for the match)
