Job Description

IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology to unlock a new era of computing. Quantum computing has the potential to impact every area of human society for the better. IonQ’s computers will soon redefine industries like medicine, materials science, finance, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cryptography, and more. IonQ is at the forefront of this technological revolution.

We are looking for a highly capable and independent Product Manager to help shape our quantum platform, developer tools, and developer experience. As a member of the product organization, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computing solutions to solve the world’s most complex problems.

A majority of our users access our hardware through our quantum cloud platform, allowing them to take advantage of quantum’s world-changing potential wherever they are on the planet. As a product manager for our QaaS platform, you’ll be responsible for defining and supporting the delivery of the platform and tools that support cloud access.

You don’t have to be an expert in quantum physics, quantum algorithms, machine learning, or heterogeneous computing environments to be successful in this role, but a familiarity and willingness to learn helps — you’ll be working to enable experts in all of this and more.

The ideal candidate needs to demonstrate curiosity and intellectual humility, have a strong familiarity with developer-focused products, and work well with highly specialized experts. These skills will be critical in successfully synthesizing customer feedback, hardware capabilities, and commercial and operational goals into a world-class developer experience. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on IonQ’s market success and drive the broader quantum computing industry as it transitions from a vision into reality.

Responsibilities:

  • Help define a strategic roadmap for our Quantum-as-a-Service platform and supporting products and tools such as our API and partner SDKs
  • Manage the product development process from concept to launch to continuous improvement, working with cross-functional peers in engineering, design, developer relations, finance, sales, and marketing to define, build, ship, and drive awareness and adoption
  • Define and track key success metrics for the platform and supporting tools (usage, activation, retention, experience, performance)
  • Maintain close relationships with sales, developer relations, and directly with customers; represent their needs in internal discussion, advocating for solutions that will delight our most demanding customers
  • Act as an advocate for the QaaS platform across the organization, helping internal teams understand everything from low-level customer frustrations to high-level product vision to a variety of audiences
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the quantum computing developer community and software ecosystem, identifying common needs and patterns

You’d be a good fit with:

  • 5+ years of experience in product management or similar roles that define the direction of a project/product
  • Experience building and/or managing APIs, SDKs, or similar developer-focused products
  • A customer-committed approach to product management, and an ability to build deep relationships with existing and future customers to deeply understand their needs

You’d be a great fit with:

  • 10+ years of experience in product management or similar roles that define the direction of a project/product
  • Experience shipping quantum computing software and tools
  • Experience managing B2B enterprise software with a global user base, role-based authentication and accounts, billing and reporting, and similar
  • A dedication to continuous improvement, with an ability to ship both minor fixes and improvements and entirely new products/capabilities within the same roadmap
  • An academic background in computer science, physics, mathematics, or similar
  • A strong bias for action and proactive approach to working in ambiguous or uncertain environments
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities, with the ability to deliver both analytical and persuasive messages to anyone from an engineer to an executive
  • Experience developing business and ecosystem strategy in complex or fast-moving markets

We are actively building out teams in the Washington D.C., Seattle, and Boston metro areas and will want to locate you in one of these geographies.
