The Opportunity
This position works out of our Irving, TX location in the Core Diagnostics Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. The Senior Project Manager manages the development and implementation process of company's products and services involving departmental or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of new or existing products. The project manager is also responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system, defining the business results expected from a project and making recommendations for achieving those results where results may be in terms of compliance with Design Control and/or Change Control policies, quality, time, scope and cost. The project manager will manage major/complex projects or combination of projects.
What You'll Work On
- Develops, plans, coordinates and directs all aspects of projects (of medium complexity) across multiple locations that are of major scope and importance. Manages multiple, often concurrent projects and meets expectations. Makes difficult decisions regarding priorities among projects. Understands the business needs and has a thorough knowledge of the customer when developing a project scope
- Estimate project levels of effort and resource requirements by using standard estimating techniques and tools, and by working with appropriate staff to understand scope of effort.
- Prepare project plans, schedules and budgets by using established project management tools and techniques such as Microsoft Project, and by working with appropriate staff to understand tasks necessary to complete project.
- Leads development of Project Charter and other project documents that satisfy the product development and stakeholder's needs and expectations
- Prepare and present written and oral reports and other presentations to internal and external audiences, including senior management. Adjust presentation style and content to suit the audience.
- Interface with senior management on significant matters, often requiring the coordination of activity across organizational units.
- Works under consultative direction. Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain project objectives. Prepares and analyzes alternatives.
- Develops a set of viable alternatives for management; relates risk and gain to critical success factors and recommends action
- Responsible for the successful execution of project activities with a clear understanding and focus on life cycle costs.
- Controls budget & maintains financial control to meet strategic project objectives. Performs tasks, such as writing Requests for Capital Expenditures (RCEs), milestone/quality checklists, scope documents, etc.
- Anticipates and resolves problems and crisis situations requiring fast, astute decisions with rapid implementation by utilizing technical training and / or experience.
- Reviews change requests, manages and approves changes to the deliverables, organizational process assets, project documents, and the project plan.
- Interacts well with diverse groups within engineering and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
- Listens to and understands others' points of view and articulates tactfully and respectfully one's own perspective orally, in writing, and in presentations.
- Works well with other engineers in a collaborative, fast-paced goal-driven environment. Sets priorities, allocate tasks, and lead project staff to meet project targets and milestones.
- Understand business environment and relates extensive knowledge of internal and external technological activities to trends.
- Consult with internal project groups by sharing project management knowledge and assisting or mentoring more junior project leaders in project management processes and techniques.
- Participate in external project management organizations, conferences and seminars to keep current with industry best practices in project management by joining professional associations and implementing a professional development plan with focus on project management.
- Lead the team through the translation of management and customer needs into project goals. Identify resource requirements, cost and time schedules and participate in the funding process. Develop an implementation plans, conduct risk assessments, and develop and implement contingency plan to allow for and accommodate unforeseen events and changes in strategy. Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies, quality system, ethics policy and project goals. Assure that projects will effectively integrate with existing programs and strategies so that long and short term business goals are attained.
- Create Project Charter: Establish project scope by creating charter, which includes "Done" for the project, assumptions, necessary conditions and preliminary project risks. Create Project Plan: Plan how the project timeline will be created. Develop appropriately detailed, cross-functional, realistic, and challenging timeline that include resource requirements and buffers. As information becomes available, update project risks in charter and, as appropriate ,includes this work in the project plan. Adjusts Project Plan: Work with cross-functional groups to ensure that buffers are managed appropriately. Adjust project plan when appropriate and reflect these changes in the timeline.
Create contingency plans, reflect this work in the timeline, and act on them to ensure project quality and delivery are achieved. Provides updates to management as plans change. Integrate Multiple Project Plans: Establish and review complex plans for multiple projects and/or activities, plan resource allocation and distribution, and work on improvement and development of new planning processes. Work to ensure that consistent training matrices exist for all PMs. - Execute Project Plans: Execute project plans to meet project goals, incorporates technical ,resource, and regulatory requirements into project plans. Continuously Improve: Recommend innovative ways to improve performance, quality and enhance profitability on an ongoing basis, modify work processes and procedures in line with current ADD quality and regulatory requirements. Work with cross-functional team to resolve resource conflicts, allocations.
Allocate Resources: Appropriately prioritize tasks and allocate resources to achieve desired outcomes. Manages Change: Evaluate the impact of project changes and adjust implementation activities to meet revised.
Clearly communicates any changes and the impact to original plan within the project and across other groups. Drive for Result: Identify and remove organizational barriers to achieving results. Analysis - Interpret Results / Recommend Options: Determine if results match requirements. Ensure that the necessary documentation is in place to meet quality and regulatory requirements. Draw Inferences: Assimilate disparate information from multiple sources, analyze for trends, adjust results and draw inferences. Resolve disparate information. Integrate Major Issues: Synthesize organizational issues and underlying causes to make judgments, recognize the impact and interconnections in the organization and/or system ,develop and recommend alternatives that support project strategies. Ensure that consistency is maintained across project. - Leadership Activities Assure project requirements are met (i.e. Compliance, Design Control ,etc.). Establish and manage team charter including project timeline. Manage the decision making process. Participate in identifying project resource needs and funding. Negotiate with resource managers to resolve any resource limitations that cannot be resolved by the team. May function as the project contact with third party vendors. Participate on division-initiatives to identify process improvements to accelerate projects. Interpersonal Skills: Interface with other disciplines, customers, internal clients ,project staff and internal and external experts as required. Prepare and present written and oral reports and other presentations to internal and external audiences. Interact with senior level management to present significant Program strategies and make recommendations. Actively Listen: Listen actively to acquire information and understand the other person's viewpoint. Build Relationships: Initiate and cultivate open ,honest, and beneficial relationships with colleagues and customers by establishing rapport, developing an understanding of others' needs ,promoting common goals and following through on commitments. Resolve Conflicts within the Team and across other groups: Seek out appropriate forum for conflict resolution. Face conflicts and take initiative to resolve them constructively ,divert tensions away from individuals and toward work issues, probe for root causes of problems, collaborate to find mutually beneficial solutions, propose action steps and assist in implementation. Collaboratively settle disputes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in a discipline appropriate to the project environment.
- Minimum of 7 years experience with at least 3 years experience leading projects involving the application of general business principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a large/complex company environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in a technical or scientific discipline or equivalent experience relevant to project area preferred.
- Master's degree, or MBA preferred
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certification preferred.
- A technical background in health care, nutritional products, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, pharmaceutical, or similar industries (preferred).
- Demonstrated competency with financial systems and in fiscal control.
- Project accounting experience.
- Understanding and management of procurement & contracting processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, PowerPoint, Project
- Technical, manufacturing, quality, or supply chain experience in a health care/medical company preferred.
- Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.
