Microsoft's Quantum research group is exploring ways to build a full-stack quantum computer and has become the world's center of expertise on topological quantum computing. The research effort includes theoretical and experimental teams around the world, who have been designing and optimizing all aspects of the quantum computer, from topological qubit designs to cryogenic control and readout circuitry, to runtime software and quantum language compilers. For more information about our team, visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/quantum .ResponsibilitiesWe are looking for a Senior Quantum Engineer with a focus on automated tuning of quantum devices. The responsibilities include design and implementation of algorithms to tune quantum devices into their operating points. You will be working with a diverse team of engineers and scientists on tuning the quantum devices including qubits and ensuring their continuous operation. To be successful you will actively work with our globally distributed team on verification, validation, and optimization of these algorithms. Specifically, your work will include:
  • Design the automatic tuning procedures for bring-up of a qubit and its sub-components
  • Provide testing for the procedures on pre-recorded and live data
  • Implement the procedures on the quantum devices across our global team
  • Regularly interact with different teams to ensure that the algorithms are tested and working as designed.
  • Work in teams or independently as required.
QualificationsRequired:
  • Master's or PhD in physics, engineering, or other related fields.
  • Proficiency in Python, development tools, and associated environments
  • 2+ years of experience with tuning quantum devices or analysis of experimental data
  • Ability to work in a team and effectively communicate to meet deadlines and deliver results.
  • Travel up to 25 % of the time.
Preferred:
  • Experience in superconducting or semiconducting physics
  • Experience in data science and numerical optimization
  • Experience in quantum control
  • Experience in device tuning automation and signal processing
