What You'll Do

Avalara is looking for a Government Sales Executive (GSE) to join a group of dynamic sales professionals. Avalara has developed a holistic portfolio of SaaS based software solutions that empower State & Local Governments to collect revenue from Corporate Taxpayers. You will be focused on developing excellent government relations, increasing sales of our SaaS solutions to government prospects and existing customers, and achieving individual sales targets. You will partner with the existing Government Relations team and a variety of other roles to prioritize, plan, and coordinate government specific go-to-market strategies.

Our sales team helps Governments improve compliance by delivering comprehensive, automated, cloud-based solutions that are fast, accurate, and easy to use. You will report to the Director of Sales for Government and you can work remote.

  • Identify sales opportunities within the government sector through direct prospecting, lead follow-up, and building government relations.
  • You Will create account plans with detailed strategies to propel new sales to prospective customers within State and Local governments.
  • Understand Public Sector budget processes, follow legislation to understand upcoming Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and document/detail specific requirements for the benefit of Avalara.
  • You will manage the sales process through qualification, need analysis, product demonstration, negotiation and close.
  • Develop a high level of knowledge around Avalara's solutions and offerings that support State & Local governments.
  • Maintain an understanding of the marketplace, competitive offerings, and other current affairs relevant to the government space.
  • Document sales activities in Salesforce, prepare accurate reports and forecasts, manage pipeline, and perform other tasks necessary to increase revenue.
  • Be an active team player both on the sales team and throughout Avalara to help meet our goals.
  • Identify early government adopters of software solutions.
  • Champion and facilitate our go-to-market strategy for government software sales.
  • Negotiate enterprise-level proposals and contracts with prospective government clients
  • The GSM will prioritize, plan and coordinate the government-industry sales plays across a variety of cross-functional roles

What You'll Need to be Successful

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience, accounting or finance degree a plus
  • 10+ years of successful sales experience with at least 5+ having an emphasis on acquiring new customers within the State & Local/Government space (SLED).
  • Background in sales and new business development experience in the public sector and an understanding of the complex procurement processes.
  • A working knowledge of Agencies' organizational structure, operating environment, and acquisition processes for major IT application investments is a plus.
  • Knowledge of different contracting vehicles available for Public Entities.
  • Documented success achieving assigned quotas.
  • Consultative, solution-based sales methodology.
  • Sales experience with financial/accounting applications is a plus.
  • Previous experience with Salesforce to document and manage sales cycles, provide insightful reporting and accurate forecasting to sales leadership.
