About the Role:

As a Software Engineer at Particle Health, you will work on some of our most challenging technology projects as we continue to push the technology and the industry forward. Distributed healthcare data networks and exchanges are complex spaces to operate: standards and legislation are constantly evolving, data is becoming more available as interoperability standards become widely adopted, and new data providers are continually coming online. You will design, build, and deliver software that drives customer demand for new products and platform capabilities in this space.

The primary architectural paradigm of the Engineering Team is event-driven, distributed systems, where decoupled web services communicate with one another over HTTP and Protobufs and where asynchronous messages are sent using queues. Owning a single feature might mean interacting with different benefits.

At Particle Health, engineers revolutionize access to electronic medical records and routinely work on industry data standards, massive-scale engineering challenges, and national health technology policy.

Areas of Responsibility:
  • Lead and contribute to engineering efforts from design to implementation, solving complex technical challenges around the health data interoperability space.
  • Design and build advanced automated build, test, and release infrastructure.
  • Drive adoption of best practices in code health, testing, and maintainability.
  • Analyze and decompose complex software systems and collaborate to influence design for testability.
  • Facilitate and contribute to architectural design conversations with other engineering team members.
  • Partner with cross-functional members of other teams, including Product, Sales Engineering, and Customer Support.
Qualifications:Required:
  • Have 4+ years of experience in software engineering at a SaaS or consumer services product company, writing code in the following programming languages: Go, Python, JavaScript, or Node.js.
  • Experience building technology platforms using a modern cloud infrastructure provider is a must. Particle Health uses Google Cloud Provider (GCP), but experience with any current provider, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure, works for us.
  • A bias towards action; you make data-driven decisions and deliver code to move the needle on critical technical initiatives.
  • Can hold others accountable without placing blame while being receptive to feedback from your peers.
Nice-to-Have:
  • Experience with health data formats like HL7 V2, CDA, and FHIR.
  • Experience in debugging, performance improvement, optimization, and refactoring code.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: automation, refactoring code, test-driven development, building infrastructure, optimizing software, debugging, and building tools.
  • Experience in building internal tools from scratch.
  • Experienced and interested in reducing bottlenecks and streamlining processes.

We expect all members of the Particle Health community to demonstrate competence in the following:

  • Collaboration - Seeks opportunities to work with others to enhance work outcomes. Defaults to open up with colleagues and seek input and expertise whenever possible.
  • Communication - Conveys and receives information in the most effective, efficient, and thoughtful manner possible.
  • Growth Mindset - Believes one’s and others’ intelligence and abilities are not fixed but capable of growing or improving with concerted effort.
  • Respect - Treats others as whole and autonomous and worthy of positive regard. Seeks first to understand.
  • Results - Is goal-oriented in most things, striving to achieve or exceed expectations for the outcomes of the company’s efforts.
  • Startup Mindset - Adds order to chaos. Is self-motivated to push things forward in the face of challenge or ambiguity. Is relentlessly mission-driven

At Particle Health, we believe that creating and nurturing a respectful, equitable, and inclusive culture is the best way to work. We're developing our career pathways, performance evaluation, and employee engagement programs to ensure our employees have what they need to succeed now and in the future.

We're serious about combatting burnout at Particle, and we've instituted anti-burnout policies, including Flexible Fridays and two week-long breaks throughout the year, on top of unlimited PTO and annual holidays.

We offer a complete benefits package, including health/dental/medical coverage for you and your family, 401(k) matching, flexible work schedules and time off, generous paid parental leave with new parent coaching, and more.
