Role Summary:

As a Senior Software Engineer with a focus on backend performance and scaling, you will work on and lead projects that improve the scalability and performance of our Prefect Cloud 2.0 workflow orchestration product. As a member of this team, you will develop new features, patterns, and frameworks that promote and improve our hosted Cloud product.

You will coordinate with team members, including our CTO and CEO, on new features and help Prefect execute our product roadmap. You will identify opportunities for improvement, and track risks and dependencies.

As a Senior Software Engineer at Prefect, you will be product-minded, think like a user, and directly support our users through multiple support channels.

You will report to our Platform Team Lead, Jamie.

What You'll Do:

• You will design, build, and optimize new features from our product roadmap, focusing on scalability and performance
• You will build robust systems that scale and you are energized by the challenges of scaling and performance work
• You will work with multiple data access patterns (relational, in-memory, streaming, etc.)
• You will help ensure our internal codebases remain well tested, easily extensible, and documented.
• Embody ownership: contribute and advocate for your ideas, while also preventing projects from failing

Your Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience working with Python, including asyncio, automated testing frameworks, concurrency, and ORMs, and scaling Python web applications
• You have an interest in Site Reliability Engineering, observability, and monitoring
• 5+ years of experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and other database technologies
• 5+ years of experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP — but not necessarily all of those!)
• 2+ years of experience deploying and monitoring Kubernetes applications
• Series A (whatever-it-takes) approach to ensure that Prefect's product and team are successful with a strong focus on product-led growth strategy

The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000-$243,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and work location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and relevant job levels. Your recruiter can share more about the salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Please keep in mind that equity is not included in the range provided above and will represent a significant part of your total compensation. Benefits and any bonus or incentive compensation is also not included in the range provided above.
