Senior Software Engineer, Developer Tooling

The Platform Team is building a cloud version of Airbyte from the ground up. You'll be getting in at the ground floor on building a SaaS ETL tool. This initiative builds on the success of the open source product. It will be a game changer for existing and new users who want to leverage the Airbyte ETL platform without having to maintain it themselves. Because of its open-source roots, Airbyte Cloud will be the only SaaS ETL solution that can manage data pipelines for all of a user's sources in a single tool. 

The Platform team also maintains the general Airbyte toolchain. This includes both open-source and internal CI/CD pipelines and the tools used to build, test and deploy open-source Airbyte, the cloud platform and connectors.It is the early days on the platform team, anyone who joins the team will be designing and working on meaty features that will define the Airbyte product.

• Help our team create a modern continuous deployment system
• Write automated deployment systems
• Write automated testing systems for code functionality
• Provide feedback to users on builds programmatically
• Debugging failing/flappy tests
• Make testing fast and accessible to engineers
• Help make the change easy and make the easy change
• For example: a tool for engineers to revert production quickly
• Writing automated remediations for known problems in production
• Communicate clearly with your end user: the engineers
• We want to keep pipelines green and adopt broad use of our tools.  In order to do that we must write code that can be understood by a broad range of engineers.  Writing tools that communicate well with their users is expected.  Those tools should have well commented and easy to understand source code.  We choose understandable solutions over clever solutions.

What You'll Need

• 4+ years of software engineering experience
• Proficiency in writing BASH/shell scripts with a focus toward readability
• Deep expertise with CI/CD systems, preferably Github Actions and Helm.
• Experience writing code in Java or python
• Intermediate level of experience with gradle, git and Docker
• Willing to work remote
• Excellent communication skills
• A passion for continuous learning and improvement (both at a personal and team level)
