Senior Software Engineer, FHIR API

The healthcare industry is undergoing a massive shift in how patients and providers exchange and access data. That transformation is built on FHIR - Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources, a standard data format and resource specification that allows innovative applications to flourish. The FHIR API team at 1upHealth builds our industry-leading FHIR server used in production around the US to provide records for millions of patients. We’re looking for a bold Senior Software Engineer to join our team and work collaboratively with others throughout the organization to achieve success, leaving egos at the door. 

You will:

• Help drive the technical vision of the team
• Develop software applications that meet technical and functional requirements
• Be a hands on contributor for a product that tells a compelling and complete story
• Participate in code discussions, reviews, and refactoring
• Collaborate with members across the organization to improve our products and services
• Advocate for engineering best practices
• Be a mentor and role model for team members

We are looking for people who have:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building highly performant and scalable applications in a modern language (e.g., Typescript, Python, Java, Go)
• 3+ years experience working with both relational and nonrelational databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, ElasticSearch, DynamoDB, Redis)
• 2+ years experience in a modern cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP)
• Expert understanding of securely designing and consuming RESTful APIs
• Ability to communicate clearly with various stakeholders of technical and non-technical backgrounds

You may also have:

• Previous healthcare technology experience (e.g., HL7, FHIR)
• Container/Orchestration experience (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Serverless/SAM experience (e.g., Lambda, FaaS)
• Hands-on experience working in a CI/CD environment
