Senior Software Engineer I (Compute)

DigitalOcean's Droplet team is a remote team responsible for managing the entire lifecycle of our core product: Droplet VMs. As a Senior Engineer on the Droplet team you will be responsible for designing, implementing and scaling our systems to meet growing demand for our products.
When a customer creates a new Droplet, the request's destination is the Droplet team's services. After we receive the request, many actions on components need to be coordinated to ensure the Droplet is created as desired. We are looking for a Senior Engineer who will work on a team to serve our customers by continuously improving the capabilities of our systems.
What You'll Be Doing:

• Designing, building, testing and scaling distributed systems
• Programming primarily in Go and deploying to a Kubernetes environment
• Collaborating with an agile, self-motivated team of peers
• Contributing to and taking part in free/open source software communities
• Solving interesting large scale problems in a technically rewarding environment
• Shipping your code to production daily through our CI/CD pipeline and tooling

What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:

• A passion for developing, testing, and shipping well-engineered code in the Go programming language (Go, Ruby, or Python experience is a plus!)
• Experience building distributed systems
• Experience testing, automating, operating, and troubleshooting production systems
• Knowledge of Linux and cloud concepts/protocols including containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), virtualization, microservices, REST, gRPC
• Familiarity with concurrency / parallelism models in a modern programming language

• We reward our employees . The base salary range for this position is between $108,000 - $145,000 based on relevant years of experience and skills. The salary range for this role is specific to candidates located within the U.S. and will vary for candidates outside the U.S.. Employees may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees including grants of equity upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
