Senior Software Engineer I (Mobile, Android)

We work using a really fun intersection of physical hardware, such as locks and thermostats, and software that can control the devices; we provide applications for both the property staff — whether single-family or multifamily and also the residents of the properties. We started in 2017, and have had explosive growth ever since — going public in 2021 for $2.2b. We have deployed over 500,000 units that contain over one million IoT devices and ingest billions of events from those devices in a given month.

About the Role

SightPlan Mobile engineers work on a native Android application that is used by properties all over the United States for day-to-day maintenance and operations, improving both the quality of work done by maintenance staff and the quality of life of their residents. We’re looking for you to own that experience. From Kotlin to RxJava to Dagger, we’re all about using the best tools to deliver quality applications. We’re a culture that is very much open to new ideas, and you will play a key role in the architecture of our Android application going forward.

You’ll work directly with product planning, design, engineering, and quality assurance in a company that takes pride in quickly delivering groundbreaking solutions to its clients.

Responsibilities

• Work with our Product team and your fellow engineers to build solutions that meet business requirements with a strong focus on usability and customer satisfaction
• Breakdown and estimate user stories, then develop those stories with quality and communication
• Ensure that our Android application is performant and optimized for a variety of devices
• Debug and resolve bugs reported by our internal QA team as well as our customers
• Actively participate in story grooming, sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives
• Work with your fellow team members to identify areas of improvement and contribute ideas on how to continually improve both our software and engineering organization

Required Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Understanding of the SDLC (software development life cycle)
• Passionate about their work and their team
• Thrives in a rapidly changing environment
• Strong knowledge of both Java and Kotlin
• Knowledge and passion for design and UX principles of mobile interfaces
• Solid understanding of source control using software like Git with a model like GitFlow
• Understanding and experience with libraries such as RxJava, Dagger 2, and Epoxy
• In depth knowledge of Activities, Fragments, and Views, as well as their lifecycles
• Experience using Firebase for release management and error reporting
• Ability to manage Gradle build configurations and library dependencies
• Bonus points for experience with: NoSQL data, Moshi, Mapbox, CI/CD, building applications with automated testing in mind, or involvement in your local Android community
