The Web Player Team:

The Web Player team is responsible for the eponymous "Player" in JW Player. The video player is the most important application on the internet that you never notice. Our player is the gateway to a massive system providing 15 billion video views every month to folks across the globe and a key component in the monetization of creative content for thousands of customers.

The video player must never have scheduled downtime, must never fail, and must perform well across a myriad of devices and platforms including mobile and embedded devices. Are you up to the challenge?

The Opportunity:

We are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer, Web Player to advance the technology of delivering player-driven experiences wherever they are embedded. The perfect candidate for this role is someone who wishes to combine their technical leadership to assume ownership of a critical piece of high-scale infrastructure with very strict  uptime guarantees. 

As a Senior Software Engineer, Web Player, you will:

• Have a hand in shaping the next generation of video player for the web
• Take on ownership of projects, seeing them through to the finish line through effective planning, clear communication, thoughtful collaboration and excellent time management
• Leverage browser APIs to continually optimize the video playback experience across the bigly fragmented browser and device landscape
• Contribute to innovative technology and architecture of a global production-scale service layer
• The latest in delivery and deployment tools like K8S, CICD, Containerization, Deployment, etc. 
• Make material impact on video playback and the delivery of the core components responsible for delivering video playback experiences
• Participate in code reviews with fellow engineering peers
• Mentor and support folks who are still in the early stages of their careers
• Contribute to open-source projects

Requirements for the role:

• 3+ years of full-stack development experience
• Computer Science, or related field; or experience equivalent
• Must be highly proficient in JavaScript and Python
• You are comfortable operating on the DOM without the help of tools and frameworks
• Insight to database design and RDBMS concepts and domain-driven designs
• Experience with Kubernetes deployments and containerization

Bonus Points:

• Contributed to open-source projects
• Experience configuring and managing CDNs
  • Especially Fastly and CloudFlare
• Previous experience utilizing video technologies (encoding, streaming, etc.)
• Experience with microservices architecture: Designing, creating, deploying, testing and monitoring

Interview Process:

1. Recruiter Screen
   • 15-30 minute conversation with a Recruiter to learn more about your background and interests
2. Team Round
   • 60 minute live coding ability, in the programming language of your choice, with a Software Engineer
   • 45 minute conversation where the Hiring Manager or someone from the team deep dives into your experiences
3. Final Round
   • 2-4 hour interview where you meet with various team members across the organization

According to New York City local Council laws, local New York City applicants residing in and performing this role in New York City will receive an annual salary dependent on experience between $140,000.00 - $160,000.00. In addition, applicants qualify for the benefits listed above. 

The salary band is not applicable to applicants outside of New York City. Applicants located outside of the New York City area will have an adjusted rate equitable and competitive to their residing and surrounding area.
