The Opportunity

This position works out of our Irving, TX location in the Transfusion Division. We're empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott's diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.

As the Senior Systems Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. Completes professional level engineering assignments related to a specific field or discipline. Leads and participates in projects involving the Design, fabrication, validation, and manufacture of complex instrument subassemblies, systems, or processes.

What You'll Work On

• Leads or contributes on a cross-functional team to streamline the configuration management processes.
• Provides technical support for product design, testing, and implementation activities.
• Tracks, traces, and oversees prototype enhancements and upgrades of design prototypes.
• Tracks cost profiles of all configuration states and the cost of upgrading prototypes.
• Manage program compliance with Quality Control requirements (i.e., Design Control, Process validation etc).
• Understand IP issues relative to processes being developed.
• Understand work environment issues (i.e., OSHA regulations, etc.).
• May supervise or provide work direction to other engineers and technicians
• May lead or serve as member on cross-functional project teams
• Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
• Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
• Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in an Engineering or closely related discipline with five or more years progressive work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Four to six years progressive work experience.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 7 years progressive technical experience and demonstrated competence.
• Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting Division products.
• Experience designing and testing medical devices preferred.
• Experience developing manufacturing processes and technologies and designing for manufacturability preferred.
• Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
• Experience preparing technical presentations for all levels of employees.
• Must have superb organizational and time management skills.
• Six Sigma Black Belt, preferred.
