Who You’ll Work With
You’ll get the chance to work with a group of very skilled but low ego and collaborative engineers, with deep experience from both established companies to startups. The MV Backend team is focused on delivering stability, scalability, speed, and quality in MV’s cloud services. You will be joining a team that manages core portions of the system’s architecture. This includes our cloud proxy, which helps securely deliver video from cameras to user’s browsers or phones (wherever they are in the world), our video processing and export pipeline, systems that archive video securely to the cloud, the systems that trigger and deliver crucial alert notifications, and more.
What you'll work on
We are looking for a Sr. Technical Leader Video Systems who will architect the next generation of our systems to support our growing business. You will chart the direction of a new team that is solely focused on every piece of video, from the on-camera video pipeline up through the players on the mobile app and web.
- Quantify and constantly improve quality of stored and streamed video, maximizing retention times and minimizing bandwidth usage
- Architect and build a cloud-transcode service that can allow a phone to stream from 16 cameras at once without a sweat (and without destroying a user’s data plan)
- Explore and advise on new hardware platforms for future generations of cameras
- Build a hyper responsive forward and backward scrubbing feature covering weeks worth of constantly changing video
- Partner with and empower our Camera Intelligence teams to create unique solutions that run at the edge
- Come up with innovative solutions that cater to both a local LAN as well as cloud backed workflows
You are an ideal fit if you have:
- At least 10+ years of demonstrated ability in product architecture and functional experience
- Expert knowledge on Audio/Video codecs (H264, H265, VP9 etc.) and streaming protocols like HLS, RTSP, DASH
- Experience in multiple areas of video streaming (encoding raw frames, transcoding to various qualities, delivery across the internet, and decode/playback on client devices)
- High proficiency with common video tools/workflows such as ffmpeg and gstreamer
- Understanding of container formats and metadata (mp4, MPEG 2/Transport Stream, etc.)
- Experience optimizing video encoding quality
- Successfully deployed video streaming solutions at scale

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. hiring location. U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.   Â
