The Azure Silicon Cloud Hardware and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team is seeking a Senior Hardware Systems Engineer to work in a team of other hardware and software developers to create systems and modules to be deployed in Microsoft's Azure Cloud. As a Senior Hardware Systems Engineering team member, you will work directly with engineers across cross-functional teams and deliver hardware designs from concept to data center deployment. Responsibilities will include interacting directly with Microsoft's services teams, cross-discipline design teams focusing on the functional interfaces and developing test cases and qualifying the designs. This is an opportunity to leverage and grow your existing hardware design/validation experience and provide innovative End-to-End hardware solutions to Microsoft Cloud.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Doctorate degree in Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in server hardware architecture, design, development with demonstrated experience in hardware, firmware, and OS interfaces.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the MicrosoftCloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in evaluating off the shelf Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) hardware designs, Hardware/Firmware/Operating System interactions, platform config trade-offs, performance tuning and optimizations is required.
- Experience in platform level test architecture and usage of debug tools like (ITP, Arium, ARM JTAG tools or equivalent).
- Experienced in debugging complex system level issues and ability to root-cause/identifying potential fixes down to a board hardware, signal integrity, CPLD, thermal and Firmware components, OS is required.
Hardware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year. Responsibilities:
- Be part of the concept design discussions, gather node/rack system level requirements, clarify interfaces, provide feedback into future design requirements to help develop robust and high-performance cloud hardware solutions.
- Gather all the system engineering requirements for the infrastructure components by working with engineering groups and other stakeholders.
- Develop test strategy, test-cases and execute platform validation plans of the systems (node/rack level).
- Work with Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), other system engineers, internal design teams and customers to develop validation execution plans for new technologies and Microsoft IP features.
- Develop criteria for different phases of programs
- Work with ODMs, Silicon vendors, component suppliers and internal design teams on cross-boundary triaging, debugging, and resolving issues.
- Review system engineering and validation coverage throughout the lifecycle of the program and publish plan vs. progress reports.
- Develop node/rack system level test cases, test requirements against system level requirements and verify them for functionality at node/rack level.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure systems meet significant quality, reliability, and service level requirements for a cloud environment.
