As part of the Engineering Program Management Office, you’ll help lead many strategic initiatives across and beyond Engineering. You’ll be on the ground helping plan and oversee the successful delivery of these key programs and the overall product roadmap. Closely tied to the release management function, you’ll get to influence the way we conduct release planning, tracking, and sign-offs and help us operate and grow as an Engineering team by helping streamline and optimize our release practices. You’ll represent Engineering in many forums across Coupa and occasionally to our valued customers on topics like best practices, release criteria, CapDev, and so on. In a continuous commitment to scale our teams, you’ll bring your expertise in leveraging tools like Jira to bring better visibility and predictability that is consistent across our multiple engineering/product teams.
This role is highly visible and you’ll have the opportunity to work with all levels make this role your own and take it to the next level.
What You’ll Do (Program Management):
- Lead key cross-team and cross-functional initiatives and involve and drive all aspects of the program to make it successful beyond just project milestone tracking. Each program may be unique, but use the experience to bring the right structure and help involved teams successful
- Focus on the overall delivery and how different pieces of the program come together that may lie with different teams. Have an end-to-end viewpoint and use it to detect risks early and work with the right people in the team to mitigate them.
- In-depth experience working in SaaS environments that’ll help build feature availability milestones on top of the cloud regional milestones and bridge the gap between development and operations functions.Â
Release Management:
- As a release manager, also a function of Engineering PMO at Coupa, you should be able to effectively plan milestones related to product feature releases across multiple applications by clearly defining dependencies between different applications and how customers adopt those releases
- Hands-on, working experience with tools like GitHub, Jenkins, etc. to analytically think about code branching strategies
- Work with Documentation, Support, Release Rollout, and other functions to manage customer expectations around releases and help manage any product escalations
- In-depth experience working with advanced-level Jira/Confluence/Product Discovery/Jira Roadmap implementation. This is key to building common tooling across different engineering teams. Prior experience with Jira administration is a strong plus (building new workflows etc.)
Tooling/Best Practices:
- Working with Atlassian tools, especially Jira administration, and leveraging Jira APIs to build other external tools will be part of the role, prior hands-on experience or in-depth knowledge will be a big plus
- Building frameworks and best practices to solve engineering-wide problems will be a big part of this role and the successful candidate will be able to think holistically to make such practices easy to adopt
What will you bring to Coupa:
- Minimum 7-10 years of strong engineering/technical program management experience with a background in Development/Strategy/Quality practices
- Strong analytical thinking to break down the problem into logical pieces, ability to manage risk or even prioritize risks and add clarity to ambiguous project requirements
- Ability to build consensus across the board based on authentic work ethic and collaboration spirit
- Proven ability to deliver SaaS-based complex programs in a cross-functional setup with no other TPMs or Scrum Masters
- Experience working directly with engineering, product management, and architecture partners
- Strong understanding of the cloud infrastructure and landscape. AWS is preferred (Azure/GCP are fine).
- Familiarity with containers or experience on any containerization project is a plus
- Strong experience leading the release function, or knowledge of different aspects of release planning and leveraging tools to streamline it
- A highly collaborative mindset focused on bringing people together to solve problems and can influence with respect
- Strong analytical skills to review and contribute to designs and overall program delivery
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Business Systems, or a similar field. MBA is preferred.
