Job Description

This is a fully remote position and we're considering candidates in the LatinoAmerica Eastern Time zones.

About the role:

Grafana is an open source project with millions of users around the world. Currently, we ship one major release per year and minor releases once every two months or so. In the past few years, we’ve launched Grafana Cloud and dozens of plugins, which require us to think differently about releasing our software. In order to ship value to our users without delay and provide a stable platform for our plugins, we want to push frequent, high-quality releases to Grafana Cloud. This is a major undertaking that requires coordinated effort from marketing, product, customer success, and many engineering teams, and success is critical to our users and our business. Your remit will be to help us build a world-class release process that works across our open source and cloud channels.

You will:

  • Advocate for and help multiple teams build conventions and habits, like testing and compatibility
  • Gather data to vet our process and make changes when necessary
  • Guide our approach: what works in our current delivery and how do we move the needle towards more frequent, less manual releasing
  • Define boundaries around changes that need more scrutiny, while streamlining easy ones
  • Collaborate with multiple engineering teams to understand their needs
  • Egoless roadmapping - good ideas will likely come from a variety of sources, and you can help relate them to the overall goals
  • Communicate with all levels of the company and organization
  • Manage dependencies and relationships
  • Coordinate escalations and incident releases (however, this is not an on-call role; you would not be paged for incidents)

We are looking for a candidate who is:

  • Long-term focused
  • Self motivated and adaptable
  • An effective communicator
  • People first (cares about developers’ and users’ experience)

Requirements/Who we are looking for:

  • 4+ years of technical program management experience, or an engineering leader with deeply developed program management skills, and some experience with any of infrastructure, observability, or release management
  • A conceptual understanding of software release-related concepts like version control, CI/CD and automated software testing
  • Strong communication skills in multiple forms across all levels of the organization
  • You care about quality delivery, and carefully weigh the long-term implications of adding or removing key parts of a process
  • You are analytical and a problem solver, and are adept at driving towards progress, or knowing when to step back and gather more information
  • Able to work asynchronously and with people from diverse backgrounds
  • You are able to consider the balance between short and long term solutions and their impacts, and help drive an effective decision
