The Opportunity

This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We're revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.

Our Product Management and Innovation group in Alameda, CA, is looking for an energetic and driven Senior Designer to join our growing UX team and design world-class, consumer grade experiences for users of the Freestyle Libre glucose monitoring system and other related services and applications.

What you'll work on

• Interaction Design - Analyze business requirements and user needs to create user flows and task flow diagrams. Translate your ideas into wireframes and prototypes for stakeholder and user feedback.
• Visual Design - Create beautiful mock-ups of visual designs consistent with UI guidelines and Abbott's brand standards.
• Design Documentation - Specify final designs and create commercial design input documentation.
• Design System - Build out and promote the company's design system. Manage the governance process and internal release cycles. Collaborate with stakeholders to create and maintain a prioritized backlog of work items.
• Design Process - Apply and evangelize human centered design methodologies. Lead and support cross-functional design sprints and workshops.
• Collaboration - Closely work with product managers and user researchers to understand customer needs and make informed design decisions. Negotiate technical feasibility of your designs with engineering and support agile teams in developing high-quality user interfaces.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Design / Human Factors or related field plus minimum of 6 years related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with standard design, prototyping and productivity tools, including Figma, Jira and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Working knowledge of design best practices and accessibility standards.
• Demonstrated application of human centered design methodologies across the entire product development life cycle.
• Experience building out and governing design systems.
• Visual design, illustration, and/or prototyping skills.
• Sound knowledge of web and mobile UI technologies.
• A customer centric, questioning mindset and an affinity for user research and usability testing.
• A "Can-Do" attitude when faced with challenging timelines or competing priorities.
• Confident decision making and the ability to respectfully disagree.
• Independently managing ambiguity and competing priorities
• A team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• An online portfolio showcasing your design approach and highlighting samples of creative and elegant design.
