Job Description
YouGov is looking for a technically sophisticated Principal Analyst to join the Analytics team within the Scientific Research Group. SRG is a fast growing unit within YouGov focusing on custom surveys and trackers in technology, politics, health, and other research areas with complex designs and client needs.
The Principal Analyst will report directly to the VP of Analytics, and in collaboration with the Directors, supporting the development of the Analytics roadmap and scaling the operation to meet our high growth targets. All analysts own client work, but the Principal Analyst will be heavily focused on development and innovation. We are looking for an individual combining practical experience in quantitative research with data science tools and best practices. Work in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment where innovative solutions to market research, financial, and political problems are developed.
Responsibilities
- Use background in stats and advanced analytics to act as a consultant with research teams on best analytic approach to research questions
- Utilize data handling and warehousing skills to lead efforts to streamline the ingestion and processing of external data (ie population studies)
- Help grow our catalog of population studies and methodological toolkit through external data sources, academic literature, and internal research
- Identify opportunities to transform routine processes with automation and generalization, and lead these developments
- Recognize unmet needs of the organization and propose and lead projects or resources that fill them
- Provide mentorship to more junior team members, engaging them as needed in development and analytics projects
Requirements
- Advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in statistics, data science, mathematics, computer science, political or social science (methods emphasis) OR equivalent experience
- At least 5 years of industry experience in data-centric role in quantitative research
- Strong background in statistical modeling and machine learning methods
- Fluent in programming fundamentals, with advanced proficiency in at least one programming language (eg R, Python)
- Proficiency in R is required, with the ability to work inside and outside of the tidyverse framework
- Experience in the following technologies is desired: SQL, Git, Linux
- Experience with cloud computing and data warehousing platforms like AWS or Snowflake are desired
- A self motivated attitude, and the ability to look beyond established practices to find solutions to novel problems
- Tolerant of the ambiguity inherent in survey research
- Thrives in and promotes an intellectually diverse, collaborative, low ego culture
For roles based in New York, Colorado or Washington State, the base salary hiring range for this position is $90,000 to 125,000. Compensation offered will be determined by multiple factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation and additional benefits. All US based full time employees are eligible for the following benefits:Â
