SUMMARY
Responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership for Abbott Molecular product manufacturing, engineering, facilities, and safety activities in order to meet worldwide production volumes, quality standards, and cost objectives. Develops manufacturing strategic plans and implements them to achieve division sales volumes and to launch new products according to Division goals. Works cross-functionally with division leadership to ensure high customer service level for on market products and successful commercialization of new products from R&D. Develops and administers operational and capital budgets for all Abbott Molecular manufacturing operations. Selects and develops management personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the manufacturing operations, facilities management and maintenance, Engineering teams, and EHS. Identifies and executes continuous improvement opportunities on a regular basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for providing strategic and operational direction to the organizations involved in the management and oversight for manufacturing related operations and planning at the site including facilities, engineering and environmental health and safety.
- Develops, establishes, and maintains operational strategies, objectives, responsibilities and action plans necessary to reliably produce high quality molecular based diagnostic tests.
- Works in conjunction with R&D, Regulatory, Quality, and Commercial to insure aligned product strategies.
- Responsible for ensuring manufactured products meet design requirements, and are made in accordance with FDA, ISO and all other applicable regulatory requirements, and Division and Corporate operating procedures, and policies.
- Develops key performance indices, sets goals and drives to achieve necessary performance.
- Develops strategies and plans for continuous improvement in quality, cost, and product performance.
- Manages financial costs and achieves cost savings through process improvements or other means of improving productivity
- Ensures key positions are staffed with an appropriate level of skill redundancy in the organization.
- Supports recruiting, training, and personnel development, including mentoring and coaching junior staff.
- Sets employee expectations and provides the leadership and support necessary to promote excellence in the areas of manufacturing, process development, technical support and process and equipment engineering.
- Serves directly and indirectly on multiple project teams in a leadership capacity in order to support new product development efforts and to ensure activities are transferred to operations smoothly and in a manner that assures a timely market introduction.
- Advises and assists the senior Division management in general areas relating to manufacturing.
- Understands and is aware of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of responsibilities and duties. Has awareness of product defects and impacts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- BS/BA degree in the Life or Physical Sciences or Engineering preferred.
- 12-15 years progressive leadership experience in the healthcare-manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing environment, manufacturing controls and effectiveness.
- Previous experience of working in a high-volume, fast paced manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of key financial and operational drivers.
- Demonstrate proficiency in problem solving and cost reduction.
- Lead large functional teams to deliver against their goals.
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills to influence many diverse internal and external customer groups.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in a medical device or in vitro diagnostic business.
- Experience leading large organizations.
- Ability to work at site and global level. Must understand the complexity of the business and be able to navigate and communicate effectively within a matrix structure.
- Experience leading continuous improvement in financial performance and product quality.
- Direct hands-on interactions with FDA and other regulatory agencies.
