The Sensors Division at STR focuses on technology development for advanced sensor systems, particularly in the areas of airborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging, and EO/IR sensing. STR Sensors Division work spans a variety of maturity levels, from technology component development to full system prototypes.
STR is seeking a Lead Software Architect to develop, lead, and mature efforts in the Maritime Domain Applications (MDA) Group within the STR Sensors Division. The Software Architect will coordinate and oversee software development and integration efforts, leading teams through requirements analysis, design, experimentation, and implementation of solutions for maritime domain military capabilities. The Software Architect will also work closely with managers and principal investigators to achieve challenging program objectives for mission systems that operate across the radio-frequency (RF) spectrum. Specific mission capability requirements will require attention to scalability, suitability, performance optimization, as well as security.
The successful candidate will be a motivated collaborator, looking for opportunities to work with a team of high-end researchers and engineers to develop and deploy novel solutions for real mission impact. Candidates should have demonstrated experience leading and supporting large cross-functional teams. We expect the architect to apply technical expertise and leadership skills to create innovative solutions that meet demanding customer requirements within aggressive implementation schedules.

Responsibilities Include:
- Leading multi-disciplinary teams in requirements analysis, design, development, and demonstration of complex software applications and enterprise deployment
- Supervising software development efforts for quality, maintainability, and alignment with best practices
- Coordinating with program managers to meet cost, schedule, and performance goals
- Interfacing with sponsor organizations to understand operational system capabilities and shortfalls
- Creating and managing software development schedules and integrating these across portfolios of related projects
- Orchestrating efforts across multiple internal company elements and across other partner organizations in government and industry
- Collaborating with system leads, customers, and other development contractors
Requirements
- U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Security Clearance
- At least 8 years demonstrating engineering leadership experience with proven track record in software architecture, development, and integration for large-scale projects
- Demonstrated skills in leading and directing the activities of diverse development teams (e.g., in specialty, experience, mission application, engineering discipline)
- Project management experience including cost/schedule status reporting and metrics reporting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with high-level programming languages
- Ability to interact with customers and program management effectively and professionally
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Security Clearance at the Secret or Top Secret (TS) level
- Architecting and development experience with Military Radio Frequency (RF) systems, especially in radar, electronic warfare, and RF sensor disciplines
- Architecting and development experience with Naval Aviation missions, and associated RF mission systems
- Architecting and development experience with command, control, computers, communications, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems
- Relevant professional certifications, such as Security+
- Experience with DevOps pipelines and associated tools
Education:
- Background in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Digital Signal Processing, or similar disciplines
