Job Description

The Sensors Division at STR focuses on technology development for advanced sensor systems, particularly in the areas of airborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, hyperspectral imaging, and EO/IR sensing. Within this role, we perform work on full system prototypes, experiment campaigns and technology component development. Particular development roles within the Sensors Division include RF analog/digital hardware, acoustic hardware, signal processing algorithms, machine learning algorithms, tracking/fusion, as well as real-time embedded processor implementation.
STR is seeking a Software Developer to develop and mature efforts in the Maritime Domain Applications (MDA) Group within the STR Sensors Division. The Software Developer will serve as the intermediary between protype algorithmic initiative development and demonstration in productionized code.
The successful candidate will be a motivated collaborator, looking for opportunities to work with a team of high-end researchers and engineers to develop and deploy novel solutions for real mission impact. Candidates should have demonstrated experience working with modular software, open architecture software principals, and prototype software at varying levels of maturity.
Responsibilities:
  • As a member of a small, focused team, implement and test real-time applications, featuring open architecture software principles
  • Transition computationally intensive algorithm prototypes at varying levels of maturity and written in various higher-level languages - such as MATLAB and Python - into C/C++ implementations
  • Optimize C/C++ implementations to achieve performance metrics (such as real-time)
  • Ensure C/C++ implementations conform to modular open architecture standards such that they can be seamlessly integrated into and tested within existing software codebases
  • Support C/C++/CUDA software migration to various High Performance Computing (HPC) architectures to include CPUs, GPUs, and other novel architectures

Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance
  • Object oriented and procedural programming skills in C/C++
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python as well as other higher-level languages
  • Proficiency working within a Linux development environment
  • Experience working with highly instrumented codebases utilized for the purposes of facilitating analysis
  • Experience using source code management (Git, Subversion)

Desired Qualifications:
  • Active Security Clearance at the Secret or Top Secret (TS) level
  • 2+ years of programming experience, particularly with open architecture systems
  • Experience with radar and/or EO/IR systems
  • Experience with software development tools including continuous build, unit testing frameworks, static and dynamic code analysis
  • Experience with algorithm optimization for real time systems, especially radar and/or remote sensing
  • Experience optimizing numerically intensive software functions to run on various processor technologies
  • Experience refactoring legacy codebases to conform with current industry standards

Education:
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or related field
