Software Engineer 2

As part of scaling the Archive Storage service, the OneDrive and SharePoint (ODSP) organization is partnering with the Azure Archive Storage team on a joint effort focused on decreasing COGS and improving service reliability. This is a great opportunity to collaborate across the ODSP and Azure organizations to deliver cross-org impact.

We're seeking a Software Engineer 2 to join our team focused on providing the world's lowest cost cloud-based storage. The Azure Archive Storage service was built from the ground up to provide secure, low-cost, and energy efficient cloud storage capable of preserving Exabytes of data for generations.

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++ or C.
  • OR equivalent experience.
• Experience in concurrent programming.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C++ or C.
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience working on large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience delivering cloud services in a software engineering role.
• Experience with data availability and durability.
• Demonstrated coding, debugging, organization skills, and problem-solving skills.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.

Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be part of a diverse team of highly technical software engineers responsible for the control path layer of our archival storage service backend. This layer is a critical component of our global-scale distributed storage service and poses unique algorithmic and scalability challenges due to the nature of the underlying archival storage system hardware used.
