In Azure Machine Learning we empower enterprise data scientists and full stack Machine Learning (ML) teams with a wide range of productive experiences to build, train and deploy machine learning models. The responsible Aritficial Intelligence (AI) engineering team develops the tools & systems needed to build and ship responsible and trustworthy AI-powered products and services. Responsible Aritificial Intelligence (RAI) is now even more important as Large Language Models (LLM) will be used in more scenarios.

Microsoft and Customer Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers need the tools and systems integrated with their Machine Learning lifecycle to uphold these principles and regulatory requirements. We are looking for a Software Engineer to build state-of-the-art responsible AI tools with Microsoft and academic researchers and integrates those tools into Azure Machine Learning so customers can benefit from these tools in simple, repeatable, and high-quality workflows. In this role, you will work with other engineers and be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing new features, and delighting our customers with top quality and performance. This role participates deeply in all phases of the development cycle (design, development, validation).

Responsibilities:

• Apply engineering principles for defining robust and maintainable architectures and designs.
• Collaborate broadly across multiple disciplines from hardware designers to ML developers.
• Perform software development in C/C++, Python, and other languages.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  o OR equivalent experience.

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ years of experience with machine learning software development and tools, statistical modeling, and large-scale analytics.
• Previous research or experience in RAI or LLM
• Experience with SQL, KQL, R, Python or related tools for analysis, data science and machine learning
• Aptitude for analytical thinking, disciplined problem solving.

• Written and verbal communication
• Experience in Microsoft Azure cloud technologies preferred.
• Customer focus, with an emphasis on listening to customer feedback and reacting to it.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $76,400 - $151,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $100,300 - $165,400 per year.
