The mandate of our Internal Tools team is straightforward: ensure that everyone at Prefect feels like they work at an Engineering-led company.

As a Software Engineer for Internal Tools at Prefect, you'll work on and lead projects that are important to our success. You will build our internal solutions for the whole company and ensure the right tool, platform, and experience for everyone.

The responsibilities of our team are a bit of a split between data engineering and building cloud services. If you'd like to specialize in one, the other, or both, we'd love to talk to you! Either way, you'll coordinate with team members across the company on new capabilities and help Prefect build our product roadmap and business strategy.

We expect our engineers to be product-focused and enthusiastic to take on new challenges and lead our platform and culture forward. You'll identify opportunities for improvement, track risks and dependencies, and lead projects to completion. You'll also be on the lookout for opportunities to make your work open source. Anything we build at Prefect can potentially help our users. If you think it can, let's get it in their hands!

You will report to our Engineering Manager, Dylan. 

• Build tools and systems leveraging our existing product and tech stack (Python, Prefect, GCP, BigQuery, Retool)
• Contribute what you build with Prefect into open-source flows, tasks, and integrations to be used by our customers
• Familiarity with different database technologies and access patterns (for example, PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Snowflake)
• Perform thoughtful code reviews for other engineers and follow best practices
• You will not hesitate to take ownership of your ideas and advocate for them

• 2+ years of experience working with Python
• Experience with data engineering and data science workflows
• Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Experience delivering projects from creation to production
• Experience working in a startup
• … and an understanding of how and when to "break the mold" when the best practice for Prefect deviates from an industry standard
