Software Integration Lead

STR’s Analytics Division is seeking a Software Integration Lead to join our team of scientists and engineers, who develop and apply cutting edge machine learning and computer vision algorithms for complex situational awareness and tactical decision-making problems. Our projects integrate algorithmic research and software engineering to address challenging national security problems. We actively collaborate within divisions across STR, as well as with academic researchers and industry partners to develop practical and powerful solutions to reliably apply advanced sensor and data exploitation techniques in the real world.

Our ideal candidate is experienced with agile software engineering processes, management of distributed software development teams, development of complex software systems, implementation in cloud environments as well as high-performance and embedded processing architectures, and software system testing for performance, reliability and robustness. We prioritize collaboration and team culture in addition to being results-oriented, and therefore we always seek engineers with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The Role:

• Take ownership of code bases from software design to implementation and maintenance
• Lead tasking of other developers as well as design and implement software features and fixes
• Break down larger milestones into smaller more manageable issues/tasks
• Manage GitLab board – creating, organizing, and tracking issues through completion
• Support meetings with stakeholders and collaborators and translate direction in the form of informal requirements or discussions into actionable issues/tasks to be completed by developers
• Collaborate on system / message interface level design
• Ensure system is able to run in development environments, system integration labs, and live tests
• Position may involve travel to customer meetings and/or data collections and experiments

Who You Are:

• BS, MS or PhD degree in Computer Science or similar experience
• Experienced developer with strong coding, debugging, algorithm design and problem-solving skills
• Capable of leading teams of developers
• Motivated collaborator with internal and external teams
• Experienced in debugging in a multi-process environment with distributed message passing
• Able to comfortably work on large, complex code bases spread across multiple git repos
• Fluent in Python and C++
• Experience with docker and docker-compose
• Experienced git user – must know how to create and manage repos, branches, tags, resolve conflicts, etc. with multiple concurrent features under development
• Experience with or ability to use GitLab web UI for creating, tracking and completing issues, epics and milestones

Some Other Relevant Skills You May Have:

• Experience with distributed real-time processing pipelines
• Experience with ActiveMQ, ZeroMQ, sockets, or other message passing solutions
• Experience with GitLab CICD
