Sr. Director of People Relations and Compliance

People Operations at Pax8:
Pax8’s Global People Operations (POps) team shapes experiences that maximize the potential of our people. We are the stewards of Pax8’s culture as our company follows a fast and steep growth trajectory. The POps team is focused on strengthening the foundational capabilities needed to support Pax8’s exciting expansion and growth. We have identified a need to build out our POps Compliance and People Relations discipline to ensure our policies, procedures, and processes are scalable and contribute to Pax8’s strong and positive culture.Â
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Sr. Director of People Relations and Compliance to develop strategy and lead our organization's efforts in fostering a positive employee experience, maintaining strong relationships between management and employees, and ensuring compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations.  They partner closely with our Chief Compliance Officer to develop to ensure Pax8 takes a positive, consistent, and proactive approach to People Relations and Compliance. The Sr. Director has experience building Compliance and Employee Relations frameworks in a complex, fast-moving business. They bring deep HR Compliance and Employee Relations experience with strong operational and excellent communication skills and a proven track record of successfully navigating complex people relations issues.
Essential Responsibilities:
- People Relations:
- Develop and implement a people relations strategy that promotes a collaborative and inclusive work environment, fostering open communication and positive relationships between employees and management
- Build people relations workflows, policies, processes, and procedures to ensure timely, consistent, and legally defensible disposition of people relations issues and investigations
- Advise and guide managers and leadership on various people relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance management, and employee development
- Define and develop training plans to ensure all stakeholders are knowledgeable about relevant laws and Pax8 policy
- Oversee the investigation and resolution of employee complaints, concerns, and grievances in a fair and timely manner
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement programs that enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention
- Partner across POps and Pax8 leadership to monitor employee morale and proactively address any potential issues that could impact the overall work environment
- Serve on Pax8's Global Ethics and Compliance Council as the Compliance Area Lead for Labor and Employment
- Collaborate with the Office of the Chief Compliance Officer to assess and enhance Pax8's People Operations policies, ensuring they are solid, transparent, compliant, and aligned with evolving legal requirements and industry best practices
- Collaborate with regional compliance staff to monitor and stay up to date with regional, national, state, and local employment laws and regulations to ensure the organization's policies, procedures, and processes remain compliant
- Conduct regular monitoring and audits to assess compliance with applicable labor and employment laws and regulations
- Provide training and guidance to managers and employees on compliance-related topics, including anti-discrimination policies, harassment prevention, and equal employment opportunity
- Collaborate with the to mitigate risks associated with employment-related legal matters
- Support as they build new skill sets (e.g., conflict resolution, mediation, restorative justice) and grow expertise in understanding how bias impacts decisions and how we build processes to ensure equity
- Re-imagine and define how we address performance concerns and terminations across the company and around the world, by looking at principles, people, processes, and technology
- Drive accountability and operational excellence in everything we do from case management to delivering on priorities and projects
- In partnership with EX team, define strategy and execution of organizational changes and performance-based exits (e.g., org changes, job eliminations, and involuntary exits)
- Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated employee relations matters. Conduct thorough and timely investigations, balancing employee rights, Pax8 culture, and legal compliance to recommend optimal outcomes
- Partner with the Chief Compliance Officer to oand continuously optimize Pax8’s SpeaksUp Helpline
- Create and deliver effective communication strategies that keep employees informed about changes to compliance policies, procedures, and processes
- Leadership and Strategy:
- Assess Pax8’s current People Relations process and practice. Recommend and implement improvements to ensure consistent, efficient, and timely resolution of employee issues.Â
- Develop and lead a team of people relations and compliance professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure their success.
- Intentionally collaborate with the team through a transformation journey into best-in-class People relations and Compliance, with high engagement and high performance
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align employee relations and compliance initiatives with the organization's overall strategic goals.
- Drive continuous improvement in people relations practices and compliance processes to enhance organizational effectiveness.
How You Will Lead:
- Lead and/or partner with a team going through a transformation journey into People Relations and Compliance , with high engagement and high performance
- Create clarity and rigor while avoiding unnecessary bureaucracy
- Own and define the approach for consulting on and addressing organizational health matters and individual employee workplace conflicts and concerns including conflicts involving managers, addressing gaps in belonging and trust within the organization, and addressing social media content that doesn't align with Intuit's values or its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Work closely with the other POps teams on coordinated case management, protocols, and metrics
- Partner closely with Talent Development, Total Rewards, and other Centers of Expertise and POps Business Partners on the People Experience team to bring an employee experience lens to the policies, procedures, and processes Pax provides
Ideal Skills, Experience, and Competencies:
- At least ten (10) plus years of relevant work experience with deep domain experience in the areas of
- At least five (5) years of experience managing people, or equivalent experience
- Experience developing and implementing compliance standards within a global, complex organization
- Experienced people leader with a track record of building high-performing teams and leading teams through transformational changes
- Demonstrated success in applying fresh, innovative thinking, data-driven, and a growth mindset to long-standing, complex challenges/problems resulting in high-impact outcomes
- Strong business and people acumen, as well as consulting, conflict resolution and facilitation skills
- In-depth understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues and how they apply to people relations
- In-depth understanding of all aspects of US employment and human resources-related laws, regulations, policies, processes, procedures, principles, concepts, and practices, including ADA, ADEA, and FMLA.
- Knowledge of and experience with international labor practices in regions where we do business strongly preferred (AMER, APAC, & EMEA)
- Ability to work collaboratively, lead and influence at all levels within the organization, and make decisions while keeping all partners and leaders informed
- Demonstrated operational and process rigor and familiarity and comfort with HR-related technology and tools/case management
- High ethical standards and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Required Education & Certifications:
- B.A./B.S. in related field or equivalent work experience
- J.D. preferred
- HR and/or Compliance/Risk certification a plus
- Qualified candidates can expect a salary beginning at $145,000 or more depending on experience
