Sr. Engineer II (Product Strategy)

We are looking for a passionate, results-oriented, and motivated engineering leader to work on a small, focused team tasked with developing mid- and long-term strategic vision to unlock new opportunities for our customers. Reporting to the Director of Product Strategy, this role works very closely with a small cross-functional team including Product Design and Product Management.
Our mission in Product Strategy is to illuminate the path forward for the DigitalOcean Product organization through research and experimentation. Our efforts are oriented to ensure that organic and inorganic investments are in alignment with the overarching corporate strategy so that we maintain alignment with our customers as they grow in scale and complexity.

What You'll Be Doing:

• Collaborating with a core innovation squad of Senior Product Managers and Designers to develop a mid- and long-term view of the DigitalOcean product portfolio
• Exploring new technologies and tools to assess viability, feasibility and fitness in context of our strategic vision.
• Thinking broadly about business impact in collaboration with the core squad to anchor opportunities in terms of product, design and brand
• Leveraging technical engineering expertise to inform build/buy/partner decisions and ROI analyses
• Framing and executing on time-boxed POCs/MVPs
• Working closely with potential and existing partners to discover and evaluate novel opportunities to delight our target customers
• Drive a high-performance culture within your team that iterates frequently and learns continuously

What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:

• Demonstrated prior software and systems engineering experience, having participated in the product development cycle of new products.
• Professional experience working with cloud technologies in a production environment - exploratory or R&D environments is a huge plus.
• Ability to grasp and learn new technologies, able to understand complex and technical user problems, and propose simple and clean solutions.
• Experience creating customer-focused products, such as databases, APIs, tools, or platforms.
• Familiarity with highly-scalable and highly-available architectures
• History working with industry partners - from originating partnerships to lifecycle managing them.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with product and design colleagues as well as leadership.
• Experienced user of other cloud technologies (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Capability to collaborate with peers to put together go-forward business decisions on new opportunities - with a specialization on the engineering areas.
• You work well within a team. You're opinionated yet humble and always looking to grow.
• Ability to excel in a distributed workplace environment - connecting with the right folks and collaborating asynchronously where appropriate.
• You are eligible to work in US/CA/UK/NL/DE/IN - we have Sharks all over the globe and can employ you if you reside in one of these countries.

• We reward our employees . The base salary range for this position is between $122,000-$183,000 based on relevant years of experience and skills. The salary range for this role is specific to candidates located within the U.S. and will vary for candidates outside the U.S.. Employees may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees including grants of equity upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
