The Team

As the Sr. Manager Trading Platform Risk you will be responsible for overseeing the identification assessment management and mitigation of all risks associated with Kraken exchange’s operations. This executive role ensures that Kraken exchange adheres to the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and other relevant regulatory frameworks maintaining the integrity and stability of the Kraken Exchange.

The ideal candidate should have experience working in an exchange trading environment with a deep understanding of global business operating models and crypto trading engines. A good understanding of the MiCA regulatory framework would be beneficial.

This role is based in Ireland.

The Opportunity

• Risk Management Framework:

  • Develop implement and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework tailored to the unique challenges of the crypto-asset market

  • Establish risk policies and procedures that comply with MiCA and other relevant regulations

• Risk Identification & Assessment:

  • Identify potential risks related to market credit operation liquidity legal and reputational aspects

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to evaluate the likelihood and impact of identified risks

  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to measure risk exposures accurately

• Risk Mitigation & Control:

  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks ensuring Kraken exchanges’ resilience to adverse events

  • Establish and monitor internal controls to prevent and mitigate risks; ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements

• Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that all risk management activities comply with MiCA and other relevant regulatory requirements

  • Prepare and submit required risk management reports to regulatory authorities and the board of directors

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to review risk management practices and ensure compliance

• Monitor & Reporting:

  • Implement systems and tools for continuous monitoring of risk exposures and effectiveness of mitigation measures

  • Provide regular reports to the board of directors senior management and regulatory bodies on risk management activities and findings

  • Oversee the investigation and reporting of risk-related incidents implementing corrective actions as necessary

• Stakeholder Communication:

  • Communicate risk management policies procedures and updates to all relevant internal stakeholders

  • Maintain transparent communication with external stakeholders including regulators regarding Kraken exchange’s risk profile and management practices

• Strategic Planning:

  • Define Kraken exchange’s risk appetite in collaboration with the board of directors and senior management

  • Ensure that risk management activities align with Kraken exchange’s strategic goals and objectives

  • Conduct scenario analysis and stress testing to evaluate Kraken exchange’s resilience to various risk scenarios

Skills You Should HODL

• Eligible to work in Ireland or be willing to relocate to Ireland

• Extensive experience (10+ years) in risk management within the financial services or crypto-asset industry

• Strong understanding of MiCA regulations risk management frameworks and crypto-asset markets

• Strong analytical strategic thinking problem-solving and communication skills

• Leadership & Management Skills:

  • Commitment to high ethical standards and transparency

  • Ability to analyze complex operational issues and develop effective solutions

  • Proactive in identifying potential risks and implementing preventative measures

  • Strong ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders

• Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance Risk Management Business Administration or a related field; advanced degree preferred

  • Relevant professional certifications in risk management compliance or finance (e.g. FRM PRM CRISC) are desirable
