About the role:
As a Staff Program Manager for the R&D PMO you will be responsible for conducting large-scale, highly cross-functional, and extremely complex strategic initiatives for the R&D organization at Samsara. You will partner closely with a multitude of teams–from our Software, Firmware, and Hardware business units within R&D to our Sales, Marketing, Finance, and other functions across Samsara–to effectively coordinate, plan, execute, and deliver upon highly visible strategic initiatives. Your success will directly contribute to the high-quality, innovative products we build that shape and change the world of physical operations, delivering real-life impact for our customers. In this role, you will:- Partner with and guide cross-functional teams across Product, Engineering, Go To Market, Finance, Program Management and many other functions, in order to drive planning, execution, and delivery of Samsara’s key strategic R&D programs
- Establish comprehensive end-to-end program plans with well-defined objectives and success criteria, to effectively track and report progress, while identifying issues and mitigating risks in a timely manner
- Dive in to complex technical problems, driving collaboration and alignment to manage and guide cross-functional teams to optimum solutions for our customers and business priorities
- Drive effective cross-functional collaboration across R&D teams (Software, Firmware, Hardware) and Go To Market teams (Sales, Marketing, Customer Success), by ensuring continuous alignment on program objectives and success measures
- Create program governance and communications plans that ensure visibility, transparency, and accountability on program objectives and status, across all levels and organizations, including executive staff
- Engage in planning and cross-functional coordination with other program management functions to run vertically and horizontally across program workstreams
- Perform as a subject matter expert on program management best practices, helping to educate your peers when needed and contribute to the development of best practices and repeatable processes
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
Minimum requirements for the role:
- 10+ years as a Program Manager in a technical and/or B2B SaaS-related industry
- A natural problem solver and strategic thinker, who has a passion for creating a structured approach to solving complex problems, breaking down ambiguity and driving actionable solutions
- High focus on creating organization with an exceptional attention to detail, and a demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple cross-functional projects with vying resources and tight deadlines
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated comfort when presenting to executives, internal stakeholders, and external customers. Able to successfully adapt your style to inspire effective discussions and leverage strong listening skills to inform your approach
- Ability to build influence, trust, and strong relationships with cross-functional partners and senior leadership across Product, Engineering, Finance, Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing
- Versed in planning and tracking tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheets, Airtable, and GSuite applications
- Demonstrated experience in managing technical and/or B2B SaaS-related product launches from inception to delivery
- Executive level experience and communication skills
An ideal candidate also has:
- Experience and understanding of global fleet operations and/or the IoT industry
- A passion for data and analytics
- BS and/or MBA in a relevant technical field e.g. EE, ME, or CS
- PMP and/or comparable certifications
