General Summary of PositionCoordinates the use of the Instrument Tracking Software, the acquisition of instruments, and the implementation of instruments for the Sterile Processing Department. Identifies, coordinates, and documents costs savings and cost containment projects for the Department. The role provides reports and data to support quality assurance, utilization trends, and the delivery of safe patient care. Works collaboratively with leadership and IT to manage the implementation and/or enhancements of the instrument tracking system in service areas as needed; and may be required to work after hours and/or weekends on a limited basis for project implementation or training needs

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Selects products according to quality, serviceability standards, contracts, and best competitive prices. Conducts quantitative analysis to determine most competitive price/service arrangements. Performs research, data analysis, benchmarking and develops appropriate tools to identify cost saving measures.
  • Develops and utilizes the most economical and efficient purchasing/contract arrangements to meet customer needs including, but not limited to: standing orders, blanket orders, vendor stocking arrangements, and pricing agreements.
  • Provides feedback to customers regarding status of orders, usage analysis, and implementation status.
  • Identifies instruments/sets with high frequency of replacement or issues and implements plan to reduce.
  • Works collaboratively with the clinical department team leads to develop instrument/scope tray count sheets complete with critical instruments and substitutes; enters instrumentation and trays into the tracking system; adds pictures/comments; and maintains the down time count sheet system.
  • Assists in the implementation and management of individual instrument marking/tracking processes as well as vendor tray management in the instrument tracking system.
  • Develops/enhances processes and electronic tools used to analyze trends; identifies opportunities for further improvement; and monitors results of continuous improvement activities related to Sterile Processing.
  • Provides reports and data to support fiscal management and quality assurance. Works collaboratively with leadership, IT, hardware support to manage implementation of the instrument tracking system in new service areas as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with leadership to assist with orientation and continuing education of sterile processing employees and operating room staff related to the instrument tracking system.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Education

    • Associate's degree required

    Experience

    • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible job related experience with experience in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Rooms and instrumentation required
    • Experience with instrument tracking programs preferred
