Job Description
We are searching for a dynamic leader to transform Yahoo's relationship with news and entertainment consumers. The GM, Yahoo! News + Homepage will be responsible for strategy and global operations across the News vertical and product offerings, including the homepage, news, entertainment and lifestyle content and related products and properties. This leader must be a visionary product executive with a deep understanding of the newsroom and content businesses. They will develop, support and direct content and product teams to deliver a differentiated Yahoo News offering that helps consumers make sense of their world. This leader must be a highly organized, well-connected and progressive thinker who can manage a complex, global organization. They will bring the intellectual horsepower needed to seamlessly balance editorial, content, programming, product, and marketing, while maintaining a forward-thinking perspective on what new tools and utilities can be developed to further distinguish the Yahoo News offering.
Responsibilities:
- Articulate long-term strategic goals, build and execute a cohesive roadmap for the News vertical and Yahoo homepage
- Establish the strategic and creative direction for the News vertical, including product offering, editorial content, programming, video, and the platforms' overall look and feel
- Participate as an industry thought leader via speaking engagements and attendance at tent-pole and industry events. Act as a face of Yahoo''s news offering by evangelizing and analyzing market shifts that gain maximum exposure and credibility for Yahoo's brands
- Seek and drive new business and market opportunities, including partnerships and acquisitions, while maximizing the value of existing company properties
- Ensure global operational effectiveness and ownership of the News + Home P&L
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of relevant professional experience in a news organization, lifestyle media company or a relevant field
- A minimum of 5+ years hiring, managing and scaling high performance and high output teams in a high growth and transitional environment
- A perspective on industry trends and how Yahoo can leverage its key differentiators - data and personalization - to create a news product that becomes a reliable daily habit for consumers around the world
- The ability to break down complex news and economic trends and develop products that are easily consumed by a wide array of audiences and demographics
- Exceptional product sensibilities that foster a best-in-class consumer experience
- Strong operating skills and the ability to manage cross-functional groups across geographies, holding teams accountable to goals, deliverables, budgets and general operating efficiencies
