System Lab and Field Test Lead Engineer

The Sensors Division at STR focuses on technology development for advanced and complex sensor systems, particularly in the areas of airborne/surface-based radar, electronic warfare, underwater acoustics, and EO/IR sensing. Within this role, we build and demonstration subsystems and full system prototypes often culminating in over the air testing.

The Electronic Warfare and Novel Capabilities (EWNC) Group within the Sensors Division focuses on the development and implementation of electronic warfare techniques and systems applying advanced signal processing and waveforms, machine learning methods. We implement and deploy these algorithms onto prototype demonstration systems as well as operational systems. The group’s main customer focus is on DARPA and Air Force research programs.

As a System Lab and Field Test Lead Engineer you have significant experience supporting and leading complex system testing. Candidate will support a multitude of programs covering a range of system capabilities, test needs, and demonstration locations. Strong technical, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills are required.

Responsibilities Include:

• Program test oversight and single point of contact for test activities including:

• Early-stage definition of necessary test outcomes and required measured data
• Identification of facilities and equipment to collect required measured data

• Knowledge of and coordination for use of test locations, facilities, and experience with frequency authorization process
• Identification of risks and development of mitigation plans
• Design, develop, and socialization/review of test plans and procedures
• Leadership and organization of test readiness review (internal and customer facing)
• Development and coordination of all supporting test documentation

• Work in partnership with principal investigator on development of system concept, understanding of algorithms and RF implementation

• Identify what data needs to be collected to support the program desired outcomes and
• Design and execute program tests

• Leadership of a small, focused team to execute test plans, coordination, outcomes
• Management/oversight of test budget

• Technical leadership of STR test capabilities. Recommend and develop strategies and plans for acquiring, integrating, extending, customizing test capabilities both near and longer term

Requirements

• 10+ years' experience in RF system lab and field-testing including deployments to remote test locations
• Ability to obtain and retain a SCI/SAP Security Clearance
• Strong background in RF systems, i.e., Radar, Communications, and Electronic Warfare
• Prior experience working with and on National Test Ranges
• Excellent communication skills with ability to develop detailed execution plans and provide clear and concise direction

Education:

• MS or greater in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related field

Desired Qualifications:

• Active Security Clearance at the Secret or Top Secret (TS) level
• Experience with advanced RF system, sensor system hardware, and data acquisition
• Extensive Benchtop and over the air test experience
