Department Overview
Motorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of professional mobile communications systems with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. The group's main business is the implementation of mission critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers.The Federal System Technologist position is an excellent opportunity for a new technician or the right individual desiring to enter into a technical work force and will be responsible for providing direct assistance to the Program Management Office (PMO) including the creation, execution, and management of tasks lists, basic radio (portable and/or mobile) checks and preventative maintenance activities, and other duties as directed by MSI and/or customer staff.
These positions are based within the Washington DC/Maryland Metro area, must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain a federal government security clearance.
Job Description
- The System Technologist will support a multi-year nationwide modernization program in support of the U.S. Secret Service. The Total Contract Value of this nationwide enterprise opportunity is anticipated to be in excess of $200M, with an approximately 6-year implementation and multiple maintenance contract years.
- In this position, the System Technologist will work on-site at the customer location in downtown Washington D.C. and will be responsible for providing direct assistance to the Program Management Office (PMO).
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- The System Technologist will report to the on-site MSI Service Manager
- Responsible for utilizing basic test equipment to perform basic operational checks on equipment (training provided)
- Responsible for programming equipment using previously developed code plugs or other device configuration files (training provided)
- Responsible for the successful planning and execution of task lists per MSI and customer direction
- Occasional “odd tasks” as directed by the on-site MSI Service Manager and/or customer
- Is a key member of the core Program Office staff with a close working relationship to the System Integration/Managed & Services Manager, the Lead Program Engineer, the Technical Service Manager, the Customer Service Manager, the Lead Sales Manager, and the customer.
Additional Requirements:
- Minimum 1-2 years total experience (preferred) within IT or Telecom sectors with Federal, State, and Local Government markets within a technical role. No previous experience will be considered for the right individual.
- Technical orientation
- Self motivated, good written and oral communication skills, and good interpersonal skills
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contracts
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Basic Requirements
2+ years experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Frequency, Radio Communications, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, Networking Equipment, Astro/P25 or IT
