Technical Controller

This role provides a strategic, hands-on opportunity to serve as the technical accounting anchor for high-growth clients. You will ensure financial statements are audit-ready, GAAP-compliant, and scalable while advising on complex accounting issues, policies, and internal controls. The position combines deep technical expertise with proactive client advisory, guiding founders through critical financial decisions and investor readiness. Operating in a fully remote environment, you will manage multiple client engagements, implement efficient financial processes, and drive strategic insights for decision-making. This is an ideal role for someone with strong audit or technical accounting experience who thrives on problem-solving, mentorship, and high-impact advisory work.

• Prepare and review monthly and annual GAAP financial statements, including complex footnote disclosures
• Serve as the internal technical accounting expert, providing guidance on ASC 606, ASC 718, capitalized software, and other standards
• Build and monitor internal control frameworks appropriate for high-growth startups
• Define and enforce quality control frameworks for client deliverables, including review checklists and documentation standards
• Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for founders, focusing on cash flow, unit economics, and scenario modeling
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during audits, coordinating with external auditors and managing relationships
• Streamline "close-to-report" cycles and implement cloud-based financial processes

Requirements:

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with Audit Manager experience at a regional or national firm highly preferred
• Exceptional understanding of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting positions
• CPA preferred
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Xero, or Sage Intacct; advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills required
• Experience with Bill.com, Gusto, Rippling, Expensify, and other remote finance tools
• Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills for managing multiple remote clients
• Comfort working asynchronously in a remote-first environment using Slack, Zoom, and project management tools such as Karbon
• Experience supporting high-growth startups in SaaS, FinTech, Biotech, or Web3 is a plus
• Familiarity with investor presentations, R&D tax credits, multi-state nexus, and ERP system implementations is advantageous

• Competitive base salary: $130,000 – $145,000, with final offer based on experience and location
