We have a remote-first culture and this position can be based anywhere from Australia or New Zealand. This role can be fully remote or a hybrid if you are in Melbourne. We encourage you to work in the way that best suits you.

In 2019 we added an award winning performance management solution to our portfolio. These two products together enable us to deliver highly differentiated, powerful and industry-leading capabilities to our customers.

We have an opening for a Technical Lead to support and grow our newly created Capture Team, working on our flagship Engagement product. Your team will own the Capture and Launch domains of the Engagement product, enabling engagement surveys to be sent to hundreds of thousands of our customers’ employees around the world. As part of this team, you will play a critical role in improving the scalability, stability, and performance of this key technical domain in our product. You’ll also help the Camp move towards its tech vision by expanding our event sourcing infrastructure.

Your role will be to help nurture and grow a skilled engineering team. Our teams are cross-functional, so as a Tech Lead you would lead the engineers working on our Rails monolith, AWS infrastructure, and event-sourced domains. You don’t have to be an expert in all those things, but you will need to lead engineers who are. You will be working both hands-on and hands-off, with our technical vision as your target.

What the role looks like;

  • Take accountability for your engineering approach and how your team ships product
  • Match your engineers with opportunities that offer them growth, while fostering a safe and collaborative environment
  • Partner with other engineers in your Camp to understand how changes you make positively impact their product areas
  • Collaborate closely with your leadership team to improve your team’s performance and deliverables

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • A proven track record of end-to-end ownership of technical work: designing solutions and bringing others along in their implementation.
  • Experience working on, or a passion to work on, event-sourced or event-driven systems such as Kafka
  • Previously led a high performing engineering team
  • Strong technical skills and experience in backend development, ideally in Ruby
  • An empathetic technical leader who can naturally balance hands-on tasks and coaching individuals
  • A clear and considerate communicator, able to express robust opinions, and reason about and synthesise contrasting opinions and other points of view
  • Able to navigate the tension between long term and short term planning.
