Our location in Casa Grande, Arizona currently has an opportunity for a Technical Services: Engineering and Maintenance Manager. This site is one of six Abbott nutrition manufacturing plants in the U.S., with about half of its products exported around the world. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

This Senior Manager level position has direct oversight and responsibility for all engineering and maintenance activities at the Abbott Nutrition manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Arizona. Scope of role includes providing all utilities, facilities maintenance and services, capital and expense project planning and execution, environmental management, production maintenance and engineering support.

The Technical Services Manager acts as the technical liaison between the plant and functions outside the plant including division, corporate, various government agencies, vendors and other industry groups.

This position plays a key role in establishing, maintaining and driving improvements in manufacturing and quality systems to assure that quality products are manufactured in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner.

Major Responsibilities:

Lead the activities of the Engineering, Maintenance, Facilities and Energy Center Managers and their Teams to meet plant goals and objectives related to safety, quality, production and financial performance.

  • Engineering:
    • Develop and deploy Facilities, Utilities and Equipment Annual and Long Range Plans to enable sustainable efficiency and cost improvements
    • Coordinate and supervise external resources including outside engineering firms, contractors, service providers, and consultants
    • Manage plant's strategic project portfolio ensuring smooth transitions from design to production while maintaining quality and cost targets
    • Design and implement enhancements to existing processing and production equipment
    • Maintain the site's Validation Master Plan and manage certification and validation of all plant equipment and systems such that all division, company and regulatory requirements are met
    • Manage all production and engineering control systems
    • Ensure adequate engineering resources to enable achievement of daily production commitments and on time, in full engineering project completion
  • Utilities, Facilities & Maintenance:
    • Assure utilities are provided to plant operations at all times (24/7 operation)
    • Manage the plant environmental function to ensure all compliance requirements are met
    • Direct all site calibration, predictive, preventive and demand maintenance activities
    • Ensure adequate maintenance and facilities resources to enable achievement of daily production commitments and on time, in full equipment calibrations, maintenance and facilities work orders and facilities projects
    • Coordinate and supervise external resources including contractors and service providers
  • Manage the Technical Services L&OH spend within established budgets ($25+ Million)
  • Develop and deploy programs to deliver Environmental Sustainability targets and maintain ISO50001 certification
  • Identify and implement initiatives to meet sustainable Cost Improvement targets
  • Plan, coordinate and successfully execute annual plant shutdown
  • Assure all engineering and maintenance records and documents are properly maintained

  • Direct Reports: 4-6 Exempt employees; Indirect Reports: 20-22 Exempt employees, 70-75 Non-exempt employees

Education and Experience, You'll bring

Required

  • B.S. in Engineering, Operations or Science discipline required; MBA is desirable
  • Professional Experience: 8-10 years minimum
    • Minimum 5 years: Experience in pharmaceutical, food and/or infant formula manufacturing
    • Minimum 5 years: Experience in project or process engineering and/or manufacturing maintenance
    • Minimum 5 years: Managerial experience with responsibility for engineering and/or manufacturing organizations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for manufacturing of nutritional and infant formula products
