Underwriter

Who You Are:

As an Underwriter, you’ll play a critical role in Hometap’s home equity investment process, making recommendations on both the homes and homeowners that we work with. The underwriting team analyzes and digests a broad set of home and homeowner information to assess the risk profile of each application, making investment eligibility recommendations per the standards set out by our underwriting guidelines. This is a great fit for candidates with experience in underwriting, a passion for real estate, and exceptional organizational skills.

What you’ll do:

• Work closely with our sales and processing teams to quickly and accurately review homeowner applications
• Verify applicant information and assess applicant risk against a set of underwriting guidelines
• Do a thorough risk assessment of subject properties based on the requirements and parameters set by our underwriting guidelines
• Flag applications for potential concerns with regard to application completeness or risk
• Determine eligibility amounts based on an analysis of the information applicant and property information 
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team of sales and operations associates to complete each application review

What you’ll bring:

• Bachelor’s degree, ideally in business, finance, or a related field
• Prior underwriting experience 
• Extraordinary attention to detail in a fast-paced environment, including strong proofreading/fact-checking skills
• Excellent judgment – comfortable making recommendations based on a rules rubric, escalating issues and questions as needed
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
• Comfort handling multiple responsibilities while being proactive in a deadline-oriented environment  
• Strong written and verbal communications skills, and a client-oriented approach 
• Eager to join a growing tech company, with interest in real estate and fintech
