Team: Finance

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Underwriting Consultant in United States.

This role serves as a senior-level underwriting expert within a life insurance underwriting organization, focused on evaluating complex and high-value cases while shaping the adoption of modern, technology-enabled underwriting practices. You will act as a trusted authority on difficult risk assessments, ensuring decisions are both competitive and fully compliant with internal guidelines, mortality expectations, and regulatory standards. The position blends deep technical underwriting expertise with a strong focus on innovation, including automated underwriting systems, data-driven tools, and emerging technologies. You will also play a key role in guiding peers, supporting escalations, and improving consistency across underwriting decisions. Working in a highly collaborative environment, you will partner closely with distribution, reinsurance, and leadership teams to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. This is a high-impact role that directly influences risk outcomes, process modernization, and business growth.

Accountabilities:

  • Serve as a senior technical authority for life underwriting decisions, adjudicating the most complex and high-value cases while ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines, mortality and morbidity expectations, and product standards.
  • Review escalations, appeals, and reinsurance-related submissions, providing expert judgment and resolving complex underwriting challenges across teams.
  • Apply deep reinsurance expertise, including treaty interpretation, retention limits, and facultative or automatic reinsurance structures, while collaborating with reinsurance partners.
  • Partner with distribution and field leadership to provide consultative underwriting support, strengthen relationships, and ensure smooth case placement and customer experience.
  • Champion the adoption of modern underwriting tools, automation platforms, and data-driven technologies to improve efficiency and decision-making.
  • Mentor and guide underwriting peers, supporting capability development, consistent decision-making, and effective use of digital tools and processes.
  • Monitor industry trends and contribute insights that support continuous improvement and strategic underwriting evolution.
  • Requirements:

    • Extensive experience in individual life underwriting with demonstrated expertise handling complex, high-value cases and advanced risk evaluation.
    • Strong understanding of reinsurance frameworks, including treaty language, retention structures, and facultative/automatic reinsurance processes.
    • Proven ability to work with automated underwriting systems and data-driven decision tools, with openness to emerging technologies such as EHR, GenAI, and wearable data.
    • Solid knowledge of underwriting quality control frameworks and audit processes, including post-issue reviews and continuous improvement methodologies.
    • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with the ability to challenge precedent and develop innovative underwriting approaches.
    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence peers, leadership, and external partners.
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor others and contribute to a collaborative, high-performance underwriting culture.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive base salary range with potential eligibility for annual and incentive compensation.
      • Performance-based bonus opportunities aligned with business and individual outcomes.
      • Comprehensive health coverage, including medical, dental, and vision plans.
      • Retirement savings programs with employer contributions.
      • Flexible and supportive work environment focused on work-life balance.
      • Professional development opportunities, including leadership growth and skill-building programs.
      • Access to inclusive wellness, well-being, and employee support initiatives.
