As our first VP of Engineering, you will help us lead the engineering team through a stage of rapid growth, focusing on designing and scaling a strong organization. You are a systems thinker who will play an integral role on the leadership team and partner with others to manifest product vision and strategy into reality. Your passion for people management and growth will enable you to lead a world-class team with empathy and humility.

The role will oversee the engineering team and will report to the Cofounder & CTO.

About You

  • Empathetic leader - Dedicated leader who listens to the team and involves them in how the engineering org is shaped; thinks about building cohesive pods

  • Mentor and coach - People builder who can develop and stretch folks in ways they didn’t know possible and proliferates a coaching culture. Constructs and executes compelling development plans.

  • Systems thinker - Use first-principle thinking and constantly ask “why”. Drive decisions with user data.

  • Process guru - Iterate on the processes that guide how we ship software with the teams involvement to ensure we ship at a high velocity while maintaining a high bar on quality.

  • Modern engineering org leader - Understands that it’s not just technology that is constantly being improved. How software is built is also constantly evolving and you’re interested in learning about it.

  • Organization design maven - Understands that companies ship the org chart. Capable of collaborating with product and design to design the PED organization, delivering value optimally for the business.

  • Hires world class candidates - Understands composition of the team and hires to round out the team with the ability to represent the company well, engage candidate excitement, and close. Works to ensure that the hiring process leads to candidates who embody our company values.

Your Impact

  • Build the engineering team - Attract, build and retain a quickly growing engineering team from 10 engineers to 30+ engineers, supported by a strong engineering management team and org structure that can continue to scale. A+ team.

  • Implement processes that continue to improve quality and productivity - Processes should reduce defect rate and increase velocity. Leverage retros as part of the feedback loop.

  • Mentor and coach members of engineering team - Define growth goals with team, ensure growth goals are achieved, maintain strong team morale and cohesion

  • Define and execute against annual product / technical roadmap with CTO - Estimate and achieve deliverables for key features and technical goals

  • Design the engineering org structure - Work with engineering leaders, CTO, and head of design to develop the optimal org structure and implement best practices around internal processes, structure and metrics.
