Job Description

Team: IT

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a VP of Engineering in Canada.

This is a senior engineering leadership role responsible for driving technical execution, quality standards, and delivery excellence across multiple value streams within a fast-scaling digital banking platform. You will lead several engineering teams spanning core integrations, business banking, vendor integrations, and client analytics, while also owning the organization-wide quality engineering strategy. The role blends hands-on technical leadership with executive-level influence, requiring deep involvement in architecture, release governance, and engineering culture transformation. You will be instrumental in shifting the organization toward an automation-first mindset, improving reliability, and strengthening delivery velocity in a regulated fintech environment. Working closely with product, platform engineering, and operations leadership, you will help define how engineering scales sustainably. This is a high-impact role where your decisions will directly influence product stability, customer trust, and organizational maturity.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead multiple engineering value streams while establishing a unified quality engineering framework across the organization. You will be responsible for both strategic direction and hands-on technical leadership, ensuring scalable systems, strong delivery discipline, and a high-performing engineering culture.

  • Lead multiple engineering teams across core banking integration, business banking, vendor integration, and account acquisition, ensuring delivery excellence and technical alignment
  • Manage engineering managers, tech leads, QA leaders, and senior engineers, fostering a high-performance and accountability-driven culture
  • Define and implement an organization-wide quality engineering strategy, including automation frameworks, testing standards, and release readiness criteria
  • Own the transition from manual-heavy QA to an automation-first engineering culture across web and mobile platforms
  • Establish release governance processes, including structured go/no-go decisions, quality gates, and post-release retrospectives
  • Drive AI-assisted engineering adoption to improve development velocity, test coverage, and operational efficiency
  • Partner with product, platform engineering, and release operations to align on priorities, architecture, and delivery timelines
  • Oversee production incident management, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Build transparent quality and delivery dashboards to improve decision-making across leadership
  • Requirements

The ideal candidate brings deep engineering leadership experience combined with strong expertise in quality engineering, automation systems, and scalable platform delivery in regulated environments. You are equally comfortable setting strategy and diving into technical execution when needed.

    • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in senior engineering leadership roles managing managers and senior ICs
    • Proven expertise in quality engineering, including building or rebuilding automation frameworks in complex environments
    • Strong experience in multi-platform automation (web, iOS, Android) using modern tools such as Playwright, Cypress, or Appium
    • Demonstrated success driving automation-first transformation in fintech or similarly regulated industries
    • Hands-on technical ability in architecture, system design, debugging, and production incident resolution
    • Experience implementing release governance models, including formal go/no-go decision frameworks under pressure
    • Strong track record of cross-functional leadership across engineering, QA, product, and support organizations
    • Experience driving adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity and software quality
    • Deep communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership decisions
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
    • Benefits

      • Competitive executive-level compensation package with performance-based bonuses
      • Equity participation in a high-growth, venture-backed fintech company
      • Remote-first work model across Canada
      • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for individuals and families (Canada)
      • Retirement savings plan with company matching contributions
      • Paid parental leave (extended coverage for primary and secondary caregivers)
      • Generous PTO, paid holidays, and end-of-year company shutdown
      • Strong focus on professional growth, leadership development, and technical excellence
      • Collaborative, high-ownership engineering culture
