Summary

Duties
Ensures all letters and packages have been properly opened and inspected by each Mail Specialist, and all safety procedures follow standard operating procedures. Distributes work assignments, monitors attendance, and maintains supply inventory. Initiates emergency response plans when an item is determined to have suspicious or hazardous characteristics by notifying management. Troubleshoots mail/package issues and processing equipment. Conducts hands-on training and works alongside staff. Operates mail/package processing equipment and machinery as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Work Experience
1-3 years of experience in a mail facility operations.
Required Special Skills/ Knowledge
As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.Â
Knowledge in Microsoft products.
Ability to learn and navigate handheld accountability devices.
Ability to obtain pulmonary, x-ray and respiratory fit certifications.
Ability to work in an air-controlled environment while properly don/doffing personal protective equipment.
Must completed annual threat recognition training.
Monitors security alarm system, HVAC operations, negative air pressure and video cameras. Operates mail/package processing equipment and machinery as needed.

Demonstrated sound judgment and calm decision-making in high-pressure or emergency situations, ensuring adherence to safety and security protocols.
Working Conditions
Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
Carrying or lifting items of 50 lbs. individually or shared weight of 100 lbs.
Work will require infrequently being outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
Working on loading docks to monitor performance, mail/package accountability, and greeting vendors.
Frequent standing, walking, and bending.
Work involves using large equipment (level 2 biosafety cabinet, mail sorter, twine and plastic strapping machines, and X-ray machines).
Employees will be exposed to chemicals used for deconning level 2 biosafety cabinets.
Exposes employees to dust and other potential threats (chemical, biological, radiological).
Requires use of a powered and non-powered pallet jacks and scissor lifts.
Employees are required to don PPE daily (N-95, Gloves, and Tyvek suits).
Using cleaning implements.
Coordinating work efforts to meet deadlines.
Employee is required to wear a uniform.
Education
High School/GED.
