Senior Technical Writer

Ahana is the self-service analytics startup for Presto, the fastest growing open source SQL project today. Backed by Google Ventures and Lux Capital, Ahana offers its customers the first cloud-native managed service for Presto which simplifies the deployment, management and integration of Presto. The cloud data analytics market is expected to grow from $10B to $100B in the next 10 years. Ahana Cloud for Presto simplifies and unifies data analytics on disparate data sources such as databases and data lakes on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The founders are experts in Presto, databases, cloud, and open source GTM, hailing from Uber, Teradata, Splunk, Couchbase, Alibaba, IBM, and Aviatrix. We are an all-remote company with a female co-founder leading the product and community teams.

Senior Technical Writer Role 

We are looking for someone with a technical background and the passion to learn about and write about bleeding-edge data technologies. Even though the work comes at a break-neck pace, you'll still wont give up on your attention to detail and your best technical story telling skills. 

The Impact You Will Have

• Write high-impact documentation for the Ahana Cloud for Presto service as well as other areas of the big data ecosystem including how Presto fits into the stack with data lakes and other Projects like Apache Hudi, Apache Parquet as well as AWS services. This will include how to's, tutorials, deployment and configuration guidance for IT and data platform engineers, API and command references, walkthroughs, sample apps, and best practices guides
• Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers and solution architects to develop effective feature documentation
• Collaborate closely with customer-facing technical staff (support engineers, solutions architects, developer relations) on best practices, onboarding material, and other scenario-based guidance
• Contribute to doc site infrastructure and information architecture improvements:
• Help doc team in its continual effort to improve authoring and production tools and processes
• Edit content contributed by engineering and the field for technical accuracy, grammar, usage, adherence to style, and fit within information architecture
• Manage contributed articles through technical review, content edits, and publication
  
  

What We Look For

Writing:

• 5+ years documenting sophisticated technologies for developers and IT professionals, or equivalent work experience (as a software developer, product manager, or solutions architect, for example)
• Experience documenting SDKs, APIs, and similar tools
• Mastery of the tools of the technical writer and editor: consistent voice, straightforward and lively style, understanding (or intuition!) of the rules of grammar and usage
• Demonstrated understanding of information architecture concepts and how to apply them

Teamwork:

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and can-do approach
• Proven project management skills

Technical:

• Proficiency in HTML, lightweight markup, and Git
• Understanding of cloud and distributed data infrastructure
• Basic proficiency in at least one programming language
• Basic SQL proficiency and understanding of relational databases
• Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving abilities

Bonus:

• Experience working with big data technologies (SQL, data warehouse, analytics)
• Experience writing SQL queries on databases
• Experience developing short video tutorials
• Experience creating effective and attractive diagrams
