CNC Machinist Setup/Operator-CNC Lathe Machinist

Full job description CNC Machinist Position summary: Prepares and sets up the CNC mills/CNC Lathe within the department for the fabrication of a variety of aircraft parts and tooling. CNC Machinist Essential Functions: • Know how to set up and operates 5 axis Mazak, Vortex 1400/160-II, Hass VF-2, VF-5, VF-11 CNC Mills and CNC Lathe to produce quality parts within the standards and B/P requiremnts. • Holds close tolerances with the standards of each operation outlined on the B/P. • Inspects dimensions and surface finish of products. • Inspects own work using measuring instruments, prior to obtaining first article inspection. • Performs first articles • Performs daily PM (check fluid levels, lubricating levels) as assigned. • Advises supervisor of better and more economical ways of completing operations on Material Removal Rate (depth of cut, feeds, and speeds) and tooling/process improvements. • Exercises and maintains good housekeeping and safety principles in the completion of work assignments. • Performs all other duties as assigned. CNC Machinist Role Qualifications: Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements: Must be familiar with machining fundamentals, tool wear, and tool usage. Thorough understanding of CNC Mill/ CNC Lathe operations for use with aluminum, steel, bar, and extrusion in various alloys. Understands 3-4 controls and must be able to learn a new control without formal training. Intermediate knowledge in the use of calipers, micrometers, sine bar, indicators (height gauge), or any measuring instrument required to check parts correctly. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions as well as interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering data to plan and layout complete sequence of operations, according to the route sheets provided. Must be able to problem solve, perform first-time setup with minimal assistance, run multiple machines at the same time, read CNC programs, and deburr parts. CNC Machinist Education and Experience: Three to five years experience in set up and operation of CNC Mills/CNC Lathe. Certified Operator or ability to receive Certified Operator status upon filling position.
