Custodian/Maintenance Worker

General Description: The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas (CALV) is the country’s leading nonprofit culinary and hospitality training institute. CALV’s vision is to reduce poverty and eliminate unemployment by providing youth, adults, and displaced workers with employability and vocational skills. The Custodian/Maintenance Worker position is responsible for keeping the buildings and grounds clean, safe, and orderly and for enhancing the property's condition regarding all aspects of general maintenance, safety,and cleaning. The candidate must provide great customer service, work quickly and efficiently, work well independently and as a team, be solution-focused, and be detail-oriented. Essential Functions: • Service, clean, stock, and supply restrooms. • Gather and empty trash in public areas, offices, and campus grounds. • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, and/or vacuuming. • Follow procedures for properly using chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. • Notify the manager when repairs are needed. • Request and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment needed for custodial and maintenance duties. • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors. • Moves and adjusts chairs, desks, tables, supplies, furniture, and equipment as needed. • Perform maintenance repairs to include painting, woodwork, wallpaper, electrical, plumbing, grout, and tile work. • Maintain upkeep of campus grounds. • Conforms to safety standards as required. • Provide exceptional customer service and clear communication. • Perform other tasks reasonably aligned with the assigned job functions. Minimum Qualifications: • Six (6) months’ experience in janitorial or housekeeping knowledge or equivalent, including knowledge of proper chemical handling (required) Note: High school diploma or equivalent required to meet minimum qualifications.
