Dance Teacher - Building Kidz of Leander

The Dance Teacher is responsible for administering creative and fun ways to teach dance to children, while utilizing the Building Kidz dance curriculum. Dance classes happen twice a week and are taught to classes that range in age from toddlers up to 5 year olds. She or he will also work collaboratively with other members of the Performing Arts department to plan and develop two musical productions a year. RESPONSIBILITIES • Teach dance to groups of children 1.5-5 years of age. Classes range from 20-30 minutes. • Must possess a strong knowledge for dance and a love for working with kids. • Manage a classroom for young children. • Curriculum development and lesson planning. • Choreography • Ability to promote a feeling of security and trust in children by being warm, supportive, and comforting. • Able to effectively collaborate with other performing arts staff to plan two imaginative show productions a year, including but not limited to music, dance, theater, set design, and costume design. • Flexibility, teamwork, and initiative required. • Ability to work well harmoniously in a multicultural team. • Attendance at regular staff meetings; ability to take and incorporate feedback. • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Performing Arts Director. • Facilitate dance routines for numbers in 2 shows a year. QUALIFICATIONS Strong knowledge of a variety of dance forms, terminology, and practices i.e. ballet, jazz, hip-hop, tap etc. ECE Credentials strongly preferred Minimum 2-3 year’s formal training in dance, performance, or musical theatre. Minimum 2 years of teaching experience preferred but not required. Experience in developing and teaching music/theater numbers utilizing different types of instruments and techniques preferred. PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Physical exam, TB test, reference check, background/fingerprint clearance; valid license and reliable vehicle are a must!
