Description

The Director, Strategy Advancement provides data-based strategic direction to identify and address business issues and opportunities. Provides business intelligence and strategic planning support for business segments or the company at large. The Director, Strategy Advancement requires an in-depth understanding of how organization capabilities interrelate across the function or segment.

Responsibilities

Location: Remote

The Clinical Strategy and Analytics team is looking for a seasoned leader to lead strategic planning and business operations for the team. The primary objective of this leader is to ensure that the CS&A team delivers strong business results and does so efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic annual planning support - Collaborate with senior team members to determine and prioritize business strategies. Coordinate with leadership to complete vision / mission development and articulate of strategic priorities. Shape the team's vision, 3-5-or-10-year plans, OKRs, and other far-reaching strategy documents. Coordinate dependencies and other inter-related efforts across teams (especially when priorities conflict), and facilitating work by ensuring teams have the resources they need
  • Managing the office and rhythm of business - Establish, document, and mature repeatable processes for critical business functions that occur on a regular cadence like budget planning, strategic planning, headcount planning, along with the overall planning and execution tempo of the organization. Partner with human resources, finance, procurement, and legal among other teams to ensure the organization's smooth operation.
  • Internal and executive communications - Compile regular updates on business activities to generate cross-team awareness. Plan team all-hands, leadership team meetings, and other cross-team events. Establish, shaping, debugging, and socializing, organizational culture, values, taste, and behavioral expectations. Encourage an effective associate onboarding experience. Partner with associate experience, change management, communication, and other teams to leverage their expertise as appropriate.
  • External communications and influence - Develop conference strategy, identify public speaking engagements, social media approach, and partner with communication teams to ensure support for external messaging to enhance Humana's reputation as a thought leader in Medicare Advantage and health care broadly. Draft materials as appropriate.
  • Leadership effectiveness - Serve as a formal and informal gatekeeper to ensure that the SVP is spending their time on the right things. Improve the effectiveness of SVP direct reports as well as leaders throughout the organization. Help leaders carry out the CSA vision and strategic intent at all levels. Prepare meeting agendas, planning team off sites, establishing communication patterns and cadences, fostering better interpersonal dynamics, etc. Identify opportunity areas and proactively resolve them. Serve a team representative, attending meetings SVP cannot attend to represent perspective, identifying opportunities and drive follow-up as needed
  • Portfolio management - Ensure strategic alignment across the portfolio. Create structure to properly prioritize clinical initiatives/projects that align with strategic objectives. Develop and lead prioritization process, identify tradeoffs and make recommendations to leadership on selection to ensure the business is working on the right things.
  • Monitoring and evaluating organizational progress - Define, align and track success metrics. Identify gaps and make recommendations for improvement. Establish, operate, and improve the systems that capture, track, and regularly report on work in flight, especially strategic or other cross-functional initiatives, to ensure situational awareness at all levels. Presenting recommendations to mitigate risks and resolves conflicts
  • Confidential and special projects - Including defining new opportunities, executing key initiatives, and closing gaps to ensure the organization runs smoothly. Move to where the work is regardless of organizational boundaries; advance ambiguous and broad-reaching problems that require organization-wide understanding
  • Stakeholder management - Create and execute strategy to maximize internal voice with critical stakeholders (immediate leadership, MT, teammates); includes preparation and after action reviews with significant meeting forums (MOC, MT, Town halls). Builds relationships with key stakeholders around the organization; solicits feedback and outside-in perspective on org performance. Facilitates meetings with senior leaders; brings together key leaders to drive decisions
  • Risk management - Serve as a first point of contact keeping the Senior Leader aware of unanticipated problems or opportunities with identified initiatives, and a proxy with leadership team for resolving issues
  • Clinical Quality Committee - Oversee internal operations to support Board of Directors Clinical Quality Committee. Includes setting agendas, establishing deadlines in partnership with Bruce's team and Corporate Strategy, working with presenters to develop materials, ensuring materials are high quality, owning end-to-end deck prior to the meeting, capturing and making any necessary edits.

Role Essentials

  • Bachelors Degree
  • 8 or more years of strategy, portfolio management and/or program optimization or related experience
  • Experience leading teams
  • Executive communications experience both written and verbal
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams, i.e.: managing aligned resources and supporting operational partners
  • Ability to present to executive level leadership
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Excel
  • Proven skills influencing others and a track record of success working through ambiguity
