Job Summary

The Supply Chain Director is responsible for the overall management of the company's supply chain program. This position represents a unique career-growth opportunity for the right candidate with proven leadership skills, demonstrable supply chain ability, and applied experience. This position currently reports to the Chief Operating Officer / Executive Vice President, and works closely with Operations' Managers, Directors, and VPs to set supply chain vision and strategy to ensure a "Best in Class" supply chain program is executed to support company growth strategies adaptable to changing market conditions, new business opportunities, performance efficiencies, and / or cost reduction strategies. In Continental, the Supply Chain Team work closely with Operations' Engineering Teams across basins / regions to set specific objectives to meet Continental's demand requirements relative to the industry's dynamic services / supply infrastructure. Continental's business culture strongly supports the current collaborative working relationship that exists between Supply Chain and Operations and expect this successful working model to remain unchanged. Indirect procurement is managed out with Supply Chain - and is currently embedded within other functions - Information Technology, Facilities and Administration Human Resources.

Duties and Responsibilities: Set the overall direction for collaboration of Supply Chain Management with Operations and other support functions such as Tax, Finance, Planning, Legal, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Audit
  • Establish supply chain targets and ensure delivery against established metrics for measurement of supply chain factors such as cost, on-time delivery, and quality of products and services.
  • Facilitate the development of strategic relationships with key suppliers and develop a process for appraisal of supplier manufacturing and service companies' performance ability, capacity, quality, and risk.
  • Develop and manage budget, policies, procedures, and processes to support a robust supply chain program.
  • Accountable for understanding high level market dynamics and providing information to Operations for budget planning and budget review processes as required.
  • Oversee services' team and purchasing team's negotiation of oilfield services costs, purchase of equipment, tubular and materials and relevant commercial terms with suppliers, contractors for documentation / communication internally.
  • Lead reduction of overall supply chain risk through team development of supply chain contingencies and proactive resolution for supply / demand imbalances and disruption.
  • Ensure operations' demand-planning business processes are coordinated well with the supply chain function to maximize value delivery for the company.
  • Oversight and review of supply chain practices in accordance with new or changing environmental and safety policies, standards, and comply with applicable regulations, and laws in the areas where the company has ongoing operations.
  • Oversee the management of timely transportation and delivery of equipment, tubulars, and materials to field operations against established targets aimed at effective performance management.
  • Facilitate the development of an Inventory Management Plan that maximizes value through the effective management of company-owned and consignment on-site and off-site inventories, with a focus on standardization, effective inventory utilization and efficient surplus disposal.

Leadership: Responsible for providing leadership and direction to the supply chain team and ensuring the team has the talent, resources, knowledge and readiness to meet the company's short-term and long-term organizational goals to ensure security of supply, good performance and a high level of productivity.
  • Build a strong multi-disciplined supply chain team atmosphere and foster collaboration across the organization.
  • Facilitate and promote supply chain disciplines communicating effectively and working efficiently cross-functionally - contracting, purchasing, logistics and materials / inventory management.
  • Mentor, guide, and coach direct reports to expand their capabilities, improve their performance and hold them accountable for doing the same with their direct reports.
  • Facilitate and advocate for the development and enhancement of supply chain competency within the Supply Chain Team.
  • Increase the general knowledge about the value of critical and efficient supply chain processes across the company through automation to reduce waste and redundancy
  • Actively participate in and "lead by example" change management as applicable to streamlining supply chain processes and promote personnel adaptability and growth potential across discipline.
  • Ability to lead, actively participate in, and positively influence medium to large-scale projects.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning effectively to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, while considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and suggest potential solutions or alternative approaches to resolve issues, concerns, or challenges / problems as appropriate.


Management: Skill in staff management through motivation, developing, directing, and empowering personnel as they work, and identification of the best people for specific jobs based on skill, aptitude, attitude and potential.
  • Experience leading and implementing organizational change, including supply chain re-design based on acquired historical knowledge, reference points for comparative applicability, and relative experience w/supply chain efficiency improvements.
  • Effectively manage and motivate a team in a fast-pace business environment in constantly changing circumstances.
  • Ensure department structure and budgeted hiring are appropriate for performance and productivity levels required to meet operation's requirements.
  • Recruit, train and develop Supply Chain Team and ensure each employee has a clear and thorough understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities.
  • Provide ongoing constructive performance feedback. Identify, document, and take appropriate action promptly to improve poor-performance and to give positive feedback and recognition in a timely manner for high performance.
  • Administer all internal policies and procedures in accordance with company, human resources, legal and finance. guidelines in compliance with company policies. Ensure accuracy of employee records.
  • Proficient at working alongside Operations to support Supplier Performance Management standards and develop / maintain mutually beneficial long-term Suppliers Relationships with key suppliers.
  • Proficient at composing / articulating supply chain strategy and/ or business decision recommendations for review and discussion with senior management.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and understand well interface management
  • Ability to work well in stressful time-sensitive circumstances and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplined teams to make effective supply chain decisions on behalf of the company as required to meet operations requirements.
  • Ability to function as a strategic thinker with good organizational skills and ability to prioritize, plan and execute.
  • Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Global awareness, good business ethics, and a good understanding of legal contract structure to facilitate the execution of Master Services Agreements (MSAs) and effectively manage risk with suppliers and contractors.
  • Good understanding of "Council of Petroleum Accounting Standards (COPAS) Guidelines" and "Sarbanes Oxley (SOX)"and relativity to Supply Chain and Company operations.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration, supply chain, economics, or comparable business-related degree from an accredited college or university
  • 10-12 years' supply chain experience in the oil industry.
  • An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test.


Preferred Qualifications
  • CPSM, CPIM & CSCP Certifications
  • 7-10 years' experience specifically with an E&P Company developing unconventional resources
  • 5 years' experience managing employees in a high-energy multi- business unit environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Power Point.
  • Proficiency in analytics software: Spot Fire, Business Analyzer, or comparable other analytic tools.
  • Experience with Ariba, SAP, Open Invoice, Open Ticket (Digital) or comparable ERP software platforms.


Physical Requirements
  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
