Medical Social Worker

Reporting to the Director of Social Services,this position provides social case work services to patients and their familieswhen social and emotional problems interfere with "patients receivingmaximum benefits," from their medical care. Crisis intervention andcounseling are provided when emotional reaction to trauma and sudden loss inhibitfamily and significant others from successfully participating in appropriatedecision - making on behalf of thepatient and family. The social worker interprets patient’s social and emotionalproblems to the attending physician and other professional personnel engagingin serving patients and plans jointly with them so that social work serviceswill be an integrated part of patient care. Related duties include abusereporting, resource referrals, statistics, conferences, in-services, andconsultation .

EDUCATION/TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

1. Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of Social Work required.
2. A minimum of 2 years’ professional experience in an acute care setting is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

1. LCSW preferred.
2. Current CPR Certification required.
3. For licensed clinical social worker, a 5150-certification preferred within 1 year of hire.
